In the third period of the Minnesota Wild's 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers, Pierre-Marc Bouchard(notes) found himself with a breakaway on goalie Nikolai Khabibulin(notes) and baffled him with a spin-o-rama to bring the house down:
As he told Michael Russo after the game: "From the blue line, I knew I was going to do it, so I'm pretty glad it worked."
Bouchard ... Khabibulin ... spin-o-rama ... this setting off any bells for you? Let's hop in the DeLorean and travel back to Dec. 2006 when Bouchard did this to Khabibulin in the shootout, when the goalie was with the Chicago Blackhawks:
Bouchard came in hard on Khabibulin to the left, then spun around to the right and slid a backhander into the open net.
"I pretty much had that planned the whole way," Bouchard said.
"That surprised me a little bit. Well, actually a lot," Khabibulin said. "I haven't seen too many of those. It was a nice game-winner."
The good news for Khabibulin is that, based on the current pace, he won't see another Bouchard spin job until 2016.
The bad news is that Pierre-Marc Bouchard made him look like that a second time, despite having lost the element of surprise five years ago.
