Puck Daddy - NHL

At about 5:50 of the third period in the Vancouver Canucks/Chicago Blackhawks game Sunday night, goalie Roberto Luongo stopped the Hawks' Dustin Byfuglien from point-blank range.

Byfuglien didn't appreciate this and, with his team down 3-0, decided to give Luongo a shot to the mask with his glove, earning a goaltender interference penalty.

By the end of the chaotic line brawl between the teams that followed the incident, there would be 12 additional penalties called, including six 10-minute misconducts and at least one case of catfight-like hair pulling.

The first two players to dance were Chicago's Ben Eager and the Canucks' Kevin Bieksa, in a fight that featured more undressing than a burlesque show and one very stiff pop to the face by Eager that sent Bieksa to the ice. The linesmen would break it up, but not befire Bieksa left some blood on the Chicago ice after the fight.

Then, Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith and Vancouver's Alex Burrows had a skirmish which saw Keith apply a headlock and Burrows grab a lock of Keith's hair -- refusing to let go even as the two tumbled to the ice. So not only is Burrows one of the NHL's greatest pests, but he evidently learned how to fight by watching "Mean Girls."

While it didn't escalate to an all-parties-involved melee, it didn't lack for entertainment:

Chicago's super-pest Adam Burish helped escalate things by going after noted non-fighter Henrik Sedin, according to defenseman Shane O'Brien of the Canucks, who told the Vancouver Sun:

"I had Eager originally and I didn't think anything was happening and looked over my shoulder and I saw Burish going after Henrik, so I just tried to get in there to try and get him," O'Brien said. "I guess Eager went around and got Juice [Bieksa]."

Earning misconducts were Chicago's Eager, Cam Barker, Keith and Burish; as well as Vancouver's O'Brien and Bieksa. Perhaps the most important thing earned in the game: Two points in the standings for Vancouver, with a 4-0 win; tying them with fourth-place Chicago in the Western Conference playoff race.

I think Burrows showed how much of a sissy he was tonight.
Hair pulling while you had your helmet on, and going after a usual non-fighter?
    Classy.

"Vancouver earned two points in the standings with a 4-0 win, moving within two of fourth-place Chicago in the Western Conference playoff race." Hey Wysh, the win tied Vancouver with Chicago, unless you're assuming Chicago wins it's game in hand. Oh, and if you have to pull hair against DUNCAN KEITH, you don't deserve to play men's hockey.

Burrows pulling the hair was worse then Semin Donkey Konga.
And Dustin Bufyguleianetaraernd is a puss. You gotta be a big man to hit the goalie on the chin while he's trying to play the puck then skate away before anyone touches you.

firstly, burrows is not a fighter. Secondly, keith's hair is so frkin big that he had to pull it so he would consider getting a hair cut next time. Give burrows some credit.

My mistake for thinking Yahoo! Sports would have the standings updated an hour after the game was finished. Oops!

Hehe, Byfuglien had better watch his back. Dude somehow totally escaped retribution today, but he could ask a certain Harvard graduate what happens after a questionable shot on the Canucks' captain. Although given how huge Byfuglien is, we might need to hire Andre the Giant to do the dirty work.

burrows should have got a misconduct for being a Pu$$y. he was holding on to that hair for dear life. eager was hilarious making fun of Bieksa after he beat him down. buff should have manned up though.

Two things I didn't see mentioned in the article or the comments.
#1 - The Hawks were not happy with the hit on Troy Brouwer's knee that sent him out in the 1st period.
#2 - Byfuglien totally manned up at the end of the game against Mitchelll and nobody took their shot at him at that point. If the Canucks wanted retribution, they had their chance.
+1 to Ben Eager for manhandling Bieksa and -1 to Burrows for fighting like a 14 year old girl on the playground. Hair pulling, like eye-gouging, biting, and groin shots are all giant no-no's when fighting in the NHL. I'd be really surprised if Burrows wasn't punished by the league for those actions.

Canucks would LOVE to meet the Hawks in the first round. Chicago can't intimidate them, and as the 4-0 score shows, they can't play with them either.

@ coop, what the clip doesn't show was one of the Sedin Sisters tugging on Burish's jersey and Burish popping him in the face two or three times. Thats why O'Brien and Bieksa were so ramped up. Can't wait for Game 1 at the UC.

Sissy is sending a goon-line over the boards to run the goalie and attempt to run a line that has scored all three goals against you while you are stinking out the joint. The referees were pretty clear at identifying who was at fault. They were also pretty clear at identifying the guilty culprit in the Keith-Burrows tango ... ten minutes Keith, zero minutes Burrows.
Chicago just played a stinker last night. I hope this is a first round matchup. It's always good when the teams are already mad at each other before the round starts.

@ Brent, if Byfuglien was going to man up, maybe next time he can do it before the game is over and not after his team got embrassed 4-0. Also if he's atleast going to try and man up, do you think he could attack someone who wasn't already in a pushing match with another Hawk. Take off the colored glasses and realize he hasnt got the balls to man up.

I was at the game (I'm a Hawks fan, for the sake of openness), and I have three observations:
    1. The Hawks need to play better. Period. They had no fire tonight (other than this fight) and they'll get swept if they don't step it up.
    2. Byfuglien was doing dumb stuff all night, so that didn't surprise me.
    3. Eager was awesome, and Burrows is a [profane] I'm going to buy that guy a skirt. He apparently has a tiny dipstick.

You call burrows a girl but Burish can go after Hendrik and that's OK. Talk about pulling up your skirt and taking on someone who is your own size. Wait until Hordichuk has a little chat with him. That is if the Blackhawks can even get by Calgary in the first round.
