At about 5:50 of the third period in the Vancouver Canucks/Chicago Blackhawks game Sunday night, goalie Roberto Luongo stopped the Hawks' Dustin Byfuglien from point-blank range.
Byfuglien didn't appreciate this and, with his team down 3-0, decided to give Luongo a shot to the mask with his glove, earning a goaltender interference penalty.
By the end of the chaotic line brawl between the teams that followed the incident, there would be 12 additional penalties called, including six 10-minute misconducts and at least one case of catfight-like hair pulling.
The first two players to dance were Chicago's Ben Eager and the Canucks' Kevin Bieksa, in a fight that featured more undressing than a burlesque show and one very stiff pop to the face by Eager that sent Bieksa to the ice. The linesmen would break it up, but not befire Bieksa left some blood on the Chicago ice after the fight.
Then, Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith and Vancouver's Alex Burrows had a skirmish which saw Keith apply a headlock and Burrows grab a lock of Keith's hair -- refusing to let go even as the two tumbled to the ice. So not only is Burrows one of the NHL's greatest pests, but he evidently learned how to fight by watching "Mean Girls."
While it didn't escalate to an all-parties-involved melee, it didn't lack for entertainment:
Chicago's super-pest Adam Burish helped escalate things by going after noted non-fighter Henrik Sedin, according to defenseman Shane O'Brien of the Canucks, who told the Vancouver Sun:
"I had Eager originally and I didn't think anything was happening and looked over my shoulder and I saw Burish going after Henrik, so I just tried to get in there to try and get him," O'Brien said. "I guess Eager went around and got Juice [Bieksa]."
Earning misconducts were Chicago's Eager, Cam Barker, Keith and Burish; as well as Vancouver's O'Brien and Bieksa. Perhaps the most important thing earned in the game: Two points in the standings for Vancouver, with a 4-0 win; tying them with fourth-place Chicago in the Western Conference playoff race.

Hair pulling while you had your helmet on, and going after a usual non-fighter?
Classy.

And Dustin Bufyguleianetaraernd is a puss. You gotta be a big man to hit the goalie on the chin while he's trying to play the puck then skate away before anyone touches you.

My mistake for thinking Yahoo! Sports would have the standings updated an hour after the game was finished. Oops!

#1 - The Hawks were not happy with the hit on Troy Brouwer's knee that sent him out in the 1st period.
#2 - Byfuglien totally manned up at the end of the game against Mitchelll and nobody took their shot at him at that point. If the Canucks wanted retribution, they had their chance.
+1 to Ben Eager for manhandling Bieksa and -1 to Burrows for fighting like a 14 year old girl on the playground. Hair pulling, like eye-gouging, biting, and groin shots are all giant no-no's when fighting in the NHL. I'd be really surprised if Burrows wasn't punished by the league for those actions.

Chicago just played a stinker last night. I hope this is a first round matchup. It's always good when the teams are already mad at each other before the round starts.

1. The Hawks need to play better. Period. They had no fire tonight (other than this fight) and they'll get swept if they don't step it up.
2. Byfuglien was doing dumb stuff all night, so that didn't surprise me.
3. Eager was awesome, and Burrows is a [profane] I'm going to buy that guy a skirt. He apparently has a tiny dipstick.
