Puck Daddy - NHL

Kevin Schultz from Barry Melrose Rocks is a pretty cynical guy; so when he posted the following video with the headline "Carey Price Makes Early Submission for Save of the Year," we knew it wasn't hyperbole.

Here's Jesus Price on Tuesday night, making a miraculous save against Brian Rafalski of the Detroit Red Wings:

"That's the save of the year, and it's not even the year yet!" Truer words ...

When you see a goalie make a spectacular save with his stick, both he and the puck are usually much closer to the goal line. For Price to be that far up in his crease and still be able to reach back and tap the puck down is ridiculously good. Just another reason confidence is so high for Montreal Canadiens goalies.

Why do we get the feeling there are going to be more supernatural moments like this during the Habs' centennial season?

That might not even be credited as a save because the puck was going wide, as you can tell from the overhead shot at the end. Holmstrom was close, but he probably wouldn't have put the puck in the net. It is still amazing, though; top play for sure.

I sure hope not. Granted, it was sweet. Personally, I want the whole team to get ghonosyphiherpnia in march and slump their way to 9th place. But that's me, I'm a Bruins fan.

It was an impressive whack at the puck... But based on the overhead shot, the puck would have gone wide assuming it didn't take some crazy bounce when it came down.

As we speak Gary Bettman is drafting up a rule to prohibit goalies from having sticks.

I agree with demondg1. It looked cool full speed but that puck was never going in the net. Still, A for effort for Carey not quitting on the play. Thats some sick vision!

This was pretty awesome. What was even more awesome is that this is the second time he has done this! He made pretty much this exact same save in the playoffs last year.

Actually, after looking at it again they are kind of different, but fundamentally the same. Kid has eyes in the back of his head.

Perdiction: Habs & Wings play in this years cup finals... Price reaches back and smacks puck with stick right into Drapers face... Draper scores... Wings win Cup... Habs fans set Montreal on fire... Habs fans set each other on fire (tragic) LOL

Thats a good prediction. The Red Wing's and Canadien's met 5 times in the Stanely Cup finals. Detroit has won 3 out of 5. Lets make it 4 out of 6. But in a more serious note,,,,Bettmann would love to see that match up. Team America vrs team Canada. You can't get better then that when it comes to ratings. It would be like the old days. Gordie Howe vrs Rocket Richard. I'd pay any price to watch those two teams go at in 2009.

Montreal vs Stars for the cup im telling you... wish it were against Detroit though. It would be great to beat "hockeytown" on our centennial. Can't hope for to much though.

Was the puck going wide? Yes. Was it just a preseason game? Yes. Did it count as a save? Probably not. But WHO CARES!! If you are a hockey fan and love the game, you have to watch the play and say, "That Was Sick!!!" It's the plays like that (and Ovechkin's goal while laying on his back, sliding across the goal line), that give me a love for the game. Thanks for the highlight Wysh. And by the way, what the hell is a "perdiction"?

The Stars don't have what it takes. They aren't no where near as deep as Detroit is. Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Hossa, Rafalski, Holmstrom, Huddler, Sameulson, Kronwall, Draper, Chelios, Franzen, Osgood, and the rest. I don't think Montreal has what it takes to go through that either.

    @18 Tom B
I agree - two great teams... a great tradition.
The only thing is, picture Bettmann introducing the teams at the start of the Cup finals: (blink, blink, blink) "i would like to introduce" (glinch, glinch, blink) "crosby" (sigh) NO (glinch) "Montreal and the other team" (glinch, blink, fart, glinch, fart, blink)
Some how Bettmann just doesn't seem to fit in with the rich tradition of NHL. But, even he couldn't ruin this tradition, could he?

i hope he can't ruin it. the reality is, the NHL is the Detroit Red Wing's, Toronto Maple Leaf's, Montreal Canadien's, Boston Bruin's, and the Edmonton Oiler's. And further more, as I said earlier that the Red Wings ARE team America and the Canadien's ARE team Canada. why wouldn't that work? that IS tradition. I would love to hear everyone in Montreal and Detroit's opinion on that one. Heck, I would love to hear anyone's opinion on it at all. and please don't tell me something silly like "oh, the Blackhawks would be cool to see in the finals", or "the Rangers who have won only one more cup then the Blackhawks would be sweet". I want people to answer this that understand tradition and marketing.
