Video: As the preseason begins, it's time to make some NHL ice

Finally, it's the unofficial end of our long summer of free-agent frenzies and cap headaches and contract rejections and Patrick Kane adventures and blog vs. MSM squabbles and whatever the hell this turned into. It's a night of completely meaningless games featuring dozens of players who'll disappear in about two weeks!

The 2010-11 NHL preseason games begin tonight; and we figured there's no better way to express our joy than with this video, featuring the time-lapse creation of the ice at Scotiabank Place, set to "Blue Rondo a la Turk" by Dave Brubeck. Enjoy:

Here are the games available this evening on NHL Network:

New Jersey Devils vs. Philadelphia Flyers, 7 p.m.  ET LIVE

Ottawa Senators vs. Toronto Maple Leafs, 10 p.m. ET (tape delay)

Vancouver Canucks vs. Calgary Flames, 2 a.m. ET (tape delay)

Via Fire & Ice, Johan Hedberg(notes) and Mike McKenna(notes) are your Devils goalies tonight, and no Ilya Kovalchuk(notes) or Zach Parise(notes) for Jersey; Nikolai Zherdev(notes) and Andrej Meszaros(notes) are in the lineup for the Flyers.
