A goaltending duel came down to the final five minutes as the Predators and Washington Capitals exchanged four goals. Nashville came out on top 3-1 thanks in part to Rinne's 39 saves for his sixth win in eight starts. Martin Erat(notes) tied the game 28 seconds after Troy Brouwer(notes) gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead. Just under four minutes later Colin Wilson(notes) snapped the tie with 24.3 seconds to play to give Nashville the two points.
A pair of goals from Butler in the final 11 minutes of the game broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Senators a 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames. The goals were Butler's first two of the year. Craig Anderson(notes) made 38 saves for his second straight win after five straight losses.
The Penguins fell behind 3-1 after the first period, and after cutting the lead to 3-2 after two, they roared back with a four-goal final frame in a 6-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche. Neal scored all three of his points (goal, two assists) in the third period as the Penguins handed the Avs their first lost against the Eastern Conference this season. Evgeni Malkin(notes), Jordan Staal(notes) and Kris Letang(notes) each chipped in two points, with No. 71 scoring the second nicest goal of the game:
Honorable mention: The New York Rangers won their seventh game in a row with a 4-2 win over the New York Islanders. Henrik Lunqvist made 31 saves, Ryan Callahan(notes) scored a goal and added an assist and Brad Richards(notes) broke a 2-2 tie with 4:55 to play in the third ... Behind Mike Smith's(notes) 35 saves and goals from Patrick O'Sullivan(notes) and Radim Vrbata(notes) in the shootout, the Phoenix Coyotes edged the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 ... Mike Komisarek(notes) scored his first goal since Oct. 15, 2010 and Phil Kessel(notes) potted his league-leading 13th of the season in the loss ... In his first start of the season, Scott Clemmensen(notes) made 25 saves for his seventh career shutout as the Florida Panthers blanked the Dallas Stars 6-0. Kris Versteeg(notes) and Stephen Weiss(notes) each finished with a goal and two assists. Weiss was also a plus-6, while Brian Campbell(notes) finished a plus-5. Of the five goals scored in the third period, the Boston Bruins had three of them and that was the difference in their 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devils. After getting benched for nine minutes of the second period, Brad Marchand(notes) scored his sixth of the season and was later followed by Shawn Thornton(notes) and Benoit Pouliot(notes) ... Patrice Bergeron(notes) won 24 of his 33 draws ... After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the Minnesota Wild scored four unanswered goals to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2. Niklas Backstrom(notes) made 43 saves and Matt Cullen(notes) scored his eighth of the season in the victory ... Antoine Vermette(notes) netted his first goal of the year, ending a 21-game scoreless drought ... The St. Louis Blues improved to 3-0-1 under Ken Hitchcock with a 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings. Brian Elliott(notes) made 21 saves for his seventh win and Alex Steen(notes) seventh of the year in the second period held up as the game winner.
