No. 1 Star: Ryan Smyth(notes), Los Angeles Kings

Mr. Smyth went to the desert and had himself a night. In front of a sparce Phoenix crowd (announce attendance: 5,855), Smyth scored twice, including the empty-net insurance marker with with :39 seconds remaining in a 5-3 Kings win. "Captain Canada" also assisted on LA's first goal and Justin Williams'(notes) game-tying goal in the third period.

No. 2 star: Brendan Witt(notes), New York Islanders

Brendan Witt almost never scores, but tonight he doubled his pleasure popping in two second period goals in a 3-1 Islanders in over Edmonton. It had been 92 games since the Islanders blueliner had scored, dating back to January of 2008.  New York's win now gives them a 5-1-2 record in their past eight games and into seventh in the Eastern Conference.

No. 3 star: Mike Richards(notes), Philadelphia Flyers

Ending his six-game goal scoring drought, the Flyers captain netted two goals and added an assist during Philly's late-matinee rout of the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2. Richards was one of three Flyers to net three-points on the night joining Jeff Carter(notes) (2 goals, 1 assist), Scott Hartnell(notes) (1 goal, 2 assists) and James van Riemsdyk(notes) (3 assists).

Honorable mention: van Riemsdyk's three assists give him 13 points through ten games and place him atop the rookie scoring list ... Steven Stamkos'(notes) goal gives him eight in his last six games ... Rookie David Laliberte(notes) became the fifth Flyer in franchise history to score in his first two NHL games ... Dwayne Roloson(notes) made 22 saves for the Islanders improving his record to 4-0-1 in his last five starts ... Drew Doughty's(notes) third goal of the season with 4:51 remaining broke the Coyotes backs and gave Los Angeles a 4-3 lead after going down 3-1 midway through the second period ... Anze Kopitar(notes) took back the NHL's points lead with a goal and two assists ... Despite the loss, Phoenix captain potted a goal and added an assist ... Scottie Upshall(notes) scored his 50th career NHL goal.

Did you know?: The Flyers have scored first in 10 of their 12 games (AP).

Dishonorable mention: The Coyotes defense couldn't prevent the Kings comeback being outshot 12-4 in the third period and allowing three goals ... Matthew Lombardi(notes), Denis Grebeshkov(notes) Taylor Chorney(notes), Todd Fedoruk(notes), and Vincent Lecavalier(notes) were all minus-3 ... Mike Smith(notes) allowed 5 goals on 18 shots before being chased.

Uh... JVR is atop the rookie scoring list? Really? Are you forgetting about a certain NYR rookie defenseman?
I'll give you a hint. His name starts with D and ends with el Zotto.

I think the Kings' dads outnumbered the 'yotes fans in Phoenix tonight.

The only thing worse than playing in front of a staggering crowd of less than 6000 at home is being booed off the ice at the end of the game by said crowd because you decided to NOT wear out your star goaltender. Stay classy, Glendale! Boy, even KC would be better...(/eyeroll)

So Ryan Smyth had one legit goal and one gimme and he is #1 star. He wasn't even one of three stars of the evening at the game. If a tree falls in the forrest......nevermind.

Good to see things are working out in Phoenix... maybe by the end of the season they will make it up to 8k fans in the stands or what would be funnier is if they dipped down to 3k.

Went to that Flyers practice last night and felt bad for Rick Tocchet having taken the dead end job of coaching that group of quitters. They have enough talent to be competitive but they just don't compete. I also feel bad for Lecavalier, I know he isn't working his butt off to earn his spot on the first line, but to just let a guy die on the vine is some what counter productive isn't it? They need to move him, and some other uninterested players, and create a locker room of at least some pride. And by the way no clip of Richards' taking on that giant Hedman, that dude is huge.

Repent folks repent, for the end is near. So it is written in Revelations, "and the Islanders shall win four games in a row with Brendan Witt scoring twice in one game"
Also, those hack islanders announcers can gafc, complaining about sutton getting challenged in a fight after he hit that guy. Sure it was a clean hit, but when your teammate is in the process of rubbing him out against the boards and you step up and run into him when he has nowhere to go, expect to be challenged. Dummies.
I'd almost feel bad for the yotes but they gave away the game themselves. And the lightning could use an nhl goalie - and stuart smalley

I was watching the Islander's game last night it was funny to see the interview with Brendan Witt during the intermission. They asked him if he knew the last time he had scored, he looked at the guy and said I don't care. It was funny the interviewer just kept going handing out the stats. Then he asked if he would go for a hat trick? Witt just looked at him and was like no.

Happy that Philly is not only scoring relentlessly but holding thier own on defense! Suprised that no Pens fans are in this Blog saying how "Dirty" Philly's wins are and how "Classless" Philly's goal scoring is. Keep playin hard agianst Minnesota and Phoenix, Pittsburgh...ouch too soon?
