Puck Daddy - NHL

As we said in yesterday's Top 10 goals of 2008 post, we're happily partnering with our buddy James Mirtle and the SBN hockey blogs on this year's Winter Classic live blog. Which means some of the best and brightest of the blogosphere (say that five times fast) will be posting their best shrinkage jokes and anti-NBC rants.

So grab your hangover remedy, take out your Winter Classic office pool grid (what, don't have one?) and get ready for another edition of something Gary Bettman hasn't figured out how to screw up yet.

Fun begins at noon EST. Enjoy the Classic, thanks, and Happy New Year, puckheads.

Yahoo just had the entire chicago team down for 2 min. head butting penalty. good laugh. No player was specified.
Still would love to see a Keystone showdown between Pens and Flyers at Beaver Stadium. There would be no problem filling 100,000+. Death toll would just be higher.

They have lost the idea of the thing...........its a Winter classic. An outdoor game. The goal shouldnt be to get a big crowd. It should be to go back to hockey roots and play in a cool setting on a pond or outdoor rink.
    This is just urban ugly.
    Wyshynski city hockey stinks!

This NHL outdoor game is the dumbest idea in sports history, and to do it nationally so you can show everyone how stoopid the NHL and the way it is run is even dumber...Parity through officiating is alive and well in the NHL. I am sure Vince McMahon would be proud, because parity through officiating puts the NHL on the same level as pro wrestling. It's not even a legit sport any more. They have ruined a great game

OK, so truthfully, is the game great? I am stuck in Iraq and they chose to air the bowl games instead of this. I was so looking forward to it. Probably get the rerun in about 7 hours but won't be the same. I need someone to tell me if this Wings and hockey fan is truly missing something. I missed last years too, Damn the luck.

J-bird, if you are a Wings fan like myself then it is a great game. However, since the 1st period, the Hawks have sucked balls, so if you're a Hawks fan, don't get your hopes up.

Bettmans s u c k s we all now that. But whats with the stupid nets in this game. Afraid some drunk fan might get get hurt?
Its all about the money, its always about the money. And thats the funny thing people forget sports is a business first, entertainment second and then its about the sport. So what jersey is your team wearing tonight? The one thats makes them money! Just like all the bowl games, making alot money for colleges not for the players. I am cynical, you bet. Next year have this game in Nashville they really need the money.

That was a blast, Wysh. Loved the Rachel Hunter joke that got stepped on.
As for the Weiner's Circle, I don't know if that shake's worth twenty-five dollars but it's pretty damn good.

well this detroit victory is the proof that the wings are the BEST team. they are far more superior and much deeper then the hawks. i must laugh at how chicago fans chant "detroit sucks". i think they should look in the mirror.

When will the American audience grasp the concept of the outdoor classic...Meant to go back to the Canadain hockey roots and play in a cool setting on a pond or outdoor rink. Lets not forget the glowing puck the USA audience needed to follow the game....The truly no how to ruin a good thing...
PS, Congrats the Canadian Jr's for another thumping of the Americans Jr again....

Horrid version of Take Me Out to the Ballgame. If they really wanted to make it hockey friendly, they should have asked me:
Take me out to the Ice Rink
Take me out to the cold
Buy me some nachos and ice cold beer
I don't care if I ever leave here
For it's root, root, root for the home team
    If they don't win, it's a shame
    For it's 1.....2.....3 periods
    At the hockey game

It was a great game to watch.I hope they keep doing this for the sake that an outdoor game is just great for the fans of hockey. :)
The conditions weren't too severe, and the players were really into it.I say it was a total success.
