Let's get in our way-back machine and remember what the NHL Awards looked like back in 1997: A clumsy mix of extraordinary production values, awkward timing and the most humble professionals in team sports participating in the time-honored tradition of singling out individual achievement. So pretty much the same way it looks today.
Krycek from "The X-Files," King of Comedy. Anyhoo, we've already handicapped the field for most of these awards earlier in the season. Check out our picks for:
• The Hart Trophy (Well, we'll leave it the NHL Shop on this one.)
• The Vezina Trophy
• The Norris Trophy
• The Jack Adams Award
• The Calder Trophy
• Selke Trophy
• Masterton Trophy
The hockey blogosphere is covering the hell out of these awards because, as Melt Your Face Off points out, the NHL didn't exactly hype this thing to the sky.
MYFO is live blogging the awards show tonight and presents the "Lasties," as in the players who likely finished last for each award. More awards previews from Knee Jerk City, the FanHouse, and Bettman Hates Hockey.
More live-bloggin' action from A View from the Cheap Seats and Abel To Yzerman. Y! Sports Ross McKeon has his breakdown of the awards, while Eric McErlain wonders if you'll still watch the awards if you already know the winners. Anything we missed, George James Malik has cited over on Snap Shots.
We'd like to hand out the night's first award: Best rental. Nominees are Marian Hossa, Brian Campbell and Pavel Datsyuk's tux. And the winner is ... Dats, by a poorly fitted cummerbund.

I can imagine Ovechkin is going to be the highest goal scorer in the NHL for years to come, but Sid is built to get points. I would imagine it is going to be a competition between Sid and Ovechkin to see who gets the most number of points, is the MVP, and best offensive player.
In any case, Ovechkin had a monster season. He deserves it.

I do agree with you, but with some reservations. What I don't like is what the NHL (Bettman) is trying to do with Sidney. Playing in the NHL is hard enough, nobody need the added pressure, of being the next "great one". Let the NHL, as a whole, sell its self.
Again-sorry, bad morning, I needed someone to pick on.
