If we had access to Doc Brown's DeLorean, we'd travel back to the year 2000 with two missions: To place as much money as possible on "tails' for the Super Bowl XXXIV coin toss and to let bright-eyed rookie Mike Comrie(notes) of the Edmonton Oilers know that something called TMZ would be writing the following about him in 10 years ... just to see his reaction:
Before NHL star Mike Comrie tied the knot with Hilary Duff, he got into a committed relationship with a $165k Mercedes-Benz -- but according to a new lawsuit, he refuses to pay the bills or give it back.
TMZ reported Sunday that "the Pittsburgh Penguins star" (sic) defaulted on payments on a 2009 Mercedes-Benz CL550 he purchased in 2008, according to a court filing from a finance company seeking $103,398.57 "plus other costs."
This naturally led to comments on the post like, "Now the whole wedding thing makes sense. He married her for the MONEY."
This is because TMZ failed to disclose that Comrie's family is reportedly worth well over $500 million, having founded The Brick, a Canadian retailer. In fairness, TMZ apparently didn't cover the Duffrie prenup, which is why we consider Page Six of the N.Y. Post your most trusted name in Mike Comrie gossip.
Oh, what, he plays hockey too? Rob Rossi reports that Comrie will center a line with Evgeni Malkin(notes) on right wing when the Penguins open their season. As Dobber's site notes, Sidney Crosby(notes) has seen time with both of them this preseason, as well as a number of other forwards. Comrie was expected to be a potential linemate for Sid when he was signed this summer.
