No. 1 Star: Jeff Carter(notes), Philadelphia Flyers

Carter scored goals Nos. 21 and 22 in the Flyers' 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on NBC. His first goal came on a scramble in front of Corey Crawford(notes) that appeared to have a dozen chances (video). His second was on a converted turnover, off a gorgeous feed from Claude Giroux(notes) (video). Sergei Bobrovsky(notes) made 30 saves in the win.

No. 2 Star: Ilya Kovalchuk(notes), New Jersey Devils

Look, we don't keep records on our Three Star selections, but we have to imagine Mr. 15 Years/$100 Million hasn't appeared here much this season. But the Devils star had a first-period goal and two assists in the team's 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers. Patrik Elias(notes), Jason Arnott(notes) (2 goals) and Brian Rolston(notes) had the other tallies. The Devils have points in seven straight games (6-0-1).

No. 3 Star: Pekka Rinne(notes), Nashville Predators

Rinne made 24 saves and improved to 9-1-0 in his last 10 games with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Edmonton Oilers. Rinne was perfect in the shootout and made four saves in overtime ... including a stick save that occurred without it being in Rinne's hand. Joel Ward(notes) and Alexander Sulzer(notes) (his first NHL goal) had the tallies for the Predators, who have won 10 of 12.

Honorable mention: Simon Gagne(notes) scored twice while Steven Stamkos(notes) scored his 38th of the season in the Tampa Bay Lightning's 7-1 rout of the Atlanta Thrashers. The Bolts scored five goals in the second period. ... Nathan Gerbe(notes) scored a power-play goal and Tyler Myers(notes) had a vital insurance goal 2:03 later in the third period, as the Buffalo Sabres topped the New York Islanders, 5-3. Ryan Miller(notes) rebounded from getting pulled against the Isles over the weekend with a 31-save effort. Dishonorable mention: Robbie Schremp and Josh Bailey(notes) were a minus-3 for the Islanders; Patrick Sharp(notes), Patrick Kane(notes) and Troy Brouwer(notes) were minus-3 for the Blackhawks; minus-3s for the Thrashers were Bryan Little(notes), Freddy Meyer(notes), Brent Sopel(notes) and Tim Stapleton(notes). ... Ondrej Pavelec(notes) was pulled for Atlanta after giving up three goals on 19 shots. ... Scott Clemmensen(notes) was yanked by the Panthers are giving up two goals on eight shots in the first period.
