Last month, there was chatter that the Toronto Maple Leafs had reached out to 36-year-old free-agent goalie Marty Turco as a veteran option when James Reimer was injured.
While that didn't pan out, one thing was clear: Marty Turco didn't want to hang up the waffle board quite yet. It appears Turco has found some work, albeit in the short term and overseas.
Sports writer Matias Strozyk (@tomppaaax on Twitter) reports that Turco's getting his wings with EC Red Bull Salzburg in Austria:
EC Salzburg confirm they have signed G Marty Turco to a short-time contract. Turco is only expected to play in the European Trophy Finals / Red Bulls Salute, played in Austria between December 16th and 18th.
That would be this tournament, held in Vienna and Salzberg. The Turco news also appeared on Elite Proscpects and Austrian TV channel Servus.
Turco was 11-11-3 with a 3.02 GAA and a .897 save percentage last season with the Chicago Blackhawks. No word what role he'll play for Salzburg; but if he's a backup keeper, we'd remind fans to make sure they bring some small bills for bench wagering purposes.
