Puck Daddy - NHL

A few weeks back, we brought to your attention Shop.com selling Pittsburgh Penguins Eastern Conference champions gear three days before the Birds actually wrapped up the series in five games.

In keeping with the tradition of being prepared, the folks at Shop.com are at it again, this time making sure your Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup champion gear is ready to go once the team plays a full 60 minute game, instead of, you know 59:26:30 (video).

You'll have your choice of the official locker room hat, above, or the fugly locker room t-shirt, among many other items to remember this momentous occasion which has yet to occur (and may not if the Penguins have anything to say about it). If shirts aren't your thing (for me, it's pants), maybe you want to remember Nicklas Lidstrom becoming the first European captain to hoist the Cup every time you hop into your 1976 AMC Pacer.  Then buy a key chain.

No sign of any Penguins Stanley Cup champion merchandise on the site.

For the true collector, time to buy these up in case the Red Wing do not prevail, otherwise, they'll be boxed up and headed to Africa.

Forget upsetting the hockey gods, Gary Roberts will be a bit ticked by this piece of information.

Phoebe Price will cut off the bottom part of that shirt and wear it to sports bars.

The Detroit Red Wings know they have the media, the refs, the league hierarchy, and the Penguins to beat to win the Stanley Cup. All of the above want to see the Pens win the Stanley Cup so they can promote Crosby until the start of next season. Going into tonights game the Wings know they won't get any calls and will get penalized if they get within a sticks length of Sid.

You think the Pens will be upset, I'm a Wings fan and that pisses me off. Hockey players and fans are superstitious. Just like when NBC started showing the Cup being polished. I was SOOO pissed. Its one thing if the game was out of reach, but don't start doing that when the game is within a goal. Sure they have to get it ready, but DON'T SHOW IT. Talk about a jinx, that's like saying shutout in the third period of a scoreless game... you just don't do it.

The shirt, at least, isn't actually for sale; it looks like they've got a product page up for it, but no actual way to buy it.

I really hate these types of stories. They're obviously just trying to jinx the Red Wings into losing. That way the "media's" team can win. Remember this isn't the Wings fans or organization doing this merchandising. It is the league. They have to have it ready in case they win. But we sure as heck don't want to see it until the Cup is won.

Chris, I just sent your comment on #1 above to my e-mail strings. That is a classic line.
Dewman, I was thinking the same thing; How many Red Wings fans were probably cringing when they did that Monday night. Two great blue collar hard working hockey towns, both with the best fans in the world think alike.
In 1992 the Pirates were walking off the field after choking in the bottom of the 9th in Atlanta and watched as the NL Trophy was being taken out of their dressing room and delivered to the Braves. Amazing that these handlers keep pulling this stuff.

You do know they make this for both teams, right?? They probably have some Penguins' prototypes hanging around and photographed as well. The Wings are one win away from the Cup, hence they're being displayed. If the Pens tie it up, you'll see both sets of gear up on the website.

The announcers and the media, even Eddy O who coached the Pens, have been anti-Penquins since the start of the series. Let's see how the older, sore, bruised, and tired Redwhiners react tonight against the younger Pens. Their age showed after the second overtime. I don't think Osgood could stop 55 shots, he looked tired stopping 23.

I heard a rumor that Bettman called the officials in and there aren't to be any penalties called on the pens tonight, he wants the Pens on a 5-3 all game or at least till there up by 5, same thing Sat! its a total fix!! this way he can promote Sid all summer!! Yea thats what I heard, so its over Wings fans stay home! don't even watch the game. I also heard that if any octo [profane] hit the ice the Pens get a automatic 10min power play. And Fleury is gonna shoot Al with firehose Sat night. Im from detroit and I smoke crack!!

I do believe it was the pens who were winning the entire game till Detroit came back. Yes it was exciting to watch but the game was not Detroit for 59.45 although it has been all Detroit in the series. I will and did order the hat. ..... Cant wait to see the cup hoisted in game 6

Duckster, the better team always rises to the top, as in scoring with 35 sec in regulation and winning in third overtime
