Here are your Puck Previews: Spotlighting the key games in NHL action, news and views as well as general frivolity. Make sure to stop back here for the nightly Three Stars when the games are finished.
Preview: New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins, 7:30 p.m. EST. The Devils try to move to 9-0-0 on the road to start the season. The Penguins attempt to avoid getting shut out for the third straight game for the first time in franchise history. Sidney Crosby(notes) attempts to break a five-game scoreless streak before the "What's wrong with Sidney?!" stories detonate across the hockey world with the fury of a thousand exploding suns.
Preview: Philadelphia Flyers at Ottawa Senators, Ottawa Senators vs. Philadelphia Flyers 7 p.m. EST. (Ed. Note: 24-hour brain fart that this game was in Ottawa. We are teh dumb.) Ray Emery's(notes) return to the scene of the crimes the media in Ottawa whispered about but never actually reported. Just another game for Emery, according to Broad Street Hockey. Scarlett Ice is hosting a live blog of the game, which will be a good time whether Emery shuts the Senators out or gives up five goals. Watch The Game Live Via Hockey Night on Y!
Preview: Montreal Canadiens at Phoenix Coyotes, 9 p.m. EST. The Coyotes are still seventh in the NHL in goals-against average, despite having given up over four in three of their last four. Montreal has lost five of seven. The game is a sellout ... oh, wait, those dudes who want to move Phoenix home games against Canadian teams to Saskatoon don't actually own the Coyotes yet? OK, so it turns out a few tickets are actually still available ... Watch The Game Live Via Hockey Night on Y!
Check out the Y! Sports scores and schedule page for previews of the other three games tonight.
Evening Reading
• That was quick: Ilya Kovalchuk(notes) is back from a broken foot for the Atlanta Thrashers, playing the New York Rangers tonight. [NHL]
• Vancouver Canucks forward Darcy Hordichuk(notes) has been suspended automatically for one game, while head coach Alain Vigneault has been fined $10,000. Hordichuk was assessed an instigator penalty at 15:04 of the third period. He will miss tonight's game at Detroit. [NHL]
• The Colorado Avalanche unleash the new third jersey. We'll probably Pass/Fail this on Friday after seeing some of the Avs' fans reaction to it. [Avalanche]
• The NHLPA announces that outgoing MLBPA Executive Director, Donald Fehr, will work with members of the Constitution and Search Committees as the players association attempts to put the "organized" back in "organized labor." [NHLPA]
• The NHL has reinstated Henry Samueli as owner of the Anaheim Ducks. Samueli looks at the standings, considers asking for a stay of reinstatement. [LA Times]
• Interesting look at the booing Jack Johnson(notes) received in Carolina, as the Los Angeles Kings defenseman actually just played his first game there since never signing with the team that drafted him. [Inside The Kings]
• Finally, it's a little risqué and not for all audiences, but the Blackhawks Urban Dictionary is also hilarious. Punching the Cabbie indeed. [Second City Hockey, and again - PG-13 stuff]
Puck Buddy Comment of the Day: Somehow, "Unpublished NHL Books" escaped from our live chat and into the Twitter universe, where it turned into a hilarious thread all afternoon. At the end of the day, this still made us laugh the hardest, from Flyers Goal Scored By ...
"The 5 People You Meet in Heaven are All Mike Richards(notes)" by Pierre McGuire.
Thanks to everyone for the laughs.
Bold Prediction: Luongo backstops the Canucks to a regulation win in Detroit.

hockey' holy grail: contract the league by five teams and play four on four
-bottom 200 players get cut
-"fill in" players are NHL quality
-improves NHL's finances
-lowers injury rate
-increases scoring
-makes still existing teams more exciting when players are redistributed
gold but it'll never happen. remove florida, phoenix, NYI, Columbus, and Nashville - move a few other teams not making enough money.
