Puck Daddy - NHL

Here are your Puck Headlines: A glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• You may have heard that St. Louis Blues defenseman Erik Johnson will miss the first three days of camp with a knee injury suffered during "a non-hockey related incident." Brad Lee reports the details of that incident: Johnson wrenched his knee attempting to put the brake down on a golf cart. Jeez. You'd figure a Blues player would be more familiar with the workings of golf equipment. [St. Louis Game Time]

• Paul from The NHL Arena Program brings a very fresh take to the current economic mess: Are NHL arena naming rights in trouble? If it means the end of the Jobing.com arena, let's hope so. [NHL Arena Program]

• Mainstream media headline of the day: "Don't worry, 'Nucks won't suck." [Sun Media]

• Uh-oh: Patrick O'Sullivan will not be reporting for physicals and isn't expected to take part in the start of camp for the Los Angeles Kings. [Inside the Kings]

• Great video find by Leahy, featuring Nelson Emerson of the Winnipeg Jets completely jobbing the Chicago Blackhawks and Ed Belfour. "Emerson catches Ed Belfour's clearance with a closed glove (a penalty) and proceeds to take a few strides and throw the puck at the net, which apparently didn't even cross the line and it's call a goal...even after a video review." [Going Five Hole]

• From The Sportsman's Daily satire site: "NHL set to go entire season without being discussed on sports radio." Actually, that's something to hope for, considering the only time sports radio talks hockey is when someone like Chris Simon or Chris Pronger decides to get creative. [Spin on Sports]

• Oh, here we go again: Sergei Zubov has hip surgery. Could miss two months. [Heika]

• According to Salavat Yulaeva Ufa's General Manager Oleg Gross, Alexander Radulov has told him that "he'll never go back to the NHL." What's the Russian word for a load of crap? Well, it's arbitration time anyway. [Slap Shot]

• The Dallas Stars win the Traverse City prospects tournament, and sound determined to bring an aggressive offense into the 2008-09 season. [DMN]

• Despite some technical difficulties, On Frozen Blog provides blow-by-blow coverage of the Washington Capitals winning a rookie scrimmage against the Flyers. [OFB]

• Speaking of Washington: Git yer Caps license plates, Maryland and Virginia. [Capitals]

• Spector looks at the Eastern Conference, and wonders if the New Jersey Devils and Ottawa Senators are ready for a fall. [Fox Sports]

• Speaking of the Devils: How does a top line of Patrik Elias-Brian Rolston-Brian Gionta sound? Which means Zach Parise on a line with Jamie Langenbrunner. Solid. [Fire and Ice]

• And speaking of Ottawa, new coach Craig Hartsburg has "ushered in what his charges are calling a new era of discipline and intensity." So yeah, it's a good thing Ray Emery went to Russia ... [Globe & Mail]

• Cool response to our Hartford Whalers story from yesterday. [Stanley Cup of Chowder]

• Dan Clearly believes he's fighting for ice time against Marian Hossa. Who will the Detroit Red Wings choose?!?!? [Snapshots]

• Finally, the Blackhawks were back kissing the Chicago Cubs' collective ass today after giving the White Sox so much love last week. Is Jonathan Toews tossing a splitter here? Nice slacks, suit.

    elias-rolston-gionta?
    wow, i'm scared.
might as well just hand the cup to the devils now, before the offensive juggernaut overcomes us all. [/extreme sarcasm]

Clearly the Wings will take neither Hossa or Cleary - Downey all the way.
I keed. But something tells me Cleary's numbers will dip a little with less ice time now. Which is fine with me, if he continues to be a workhorse, 2-way threat.

Why do some many people knock the Devils down?
They have been most successful team in the league along with the Red Wings for a very long time.
    I just don't get it.
More people put down the Devils, than any of the Southeast teams and even the Coyotes. Is it a Gretzky bandwagon and the infamous Mickey Mouse stmt?

Jets-Hawks Vid: It was Bettman's test of new ways to increase scoring. Straight from the NBA (vs actual basketball rules) that any player can carry the puck/ball with no infraction.

Jets-Hawks vid: It was Bettman's test of ways to increase scoring. It was very NBA like too. The NBA (vs basketball actual rules) allows players to carry the ball (in this case a puck) with no infraction.

don't get your hopes up about jobing.com center. i think the name is here to stay...if any company is to do well in these times, it certainly would be a job placement agency!
