Puck Daddy - NHL

Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• At McFadden's in D.C.: The highly anticipated summit between Alex Ovechkin(notes) of the Washington Capitals and Ronnie from MTV's "Jersey Shore" ... which was soon interrupted by Mike Green(notes) issuing a challenge for a sunglasses and flex-off.  (And to think, Toews had to settle for Snooki.) Ovechkin has also apparently charmed the pants off ESPN critic Scott Burnside like so many Eastern European models. [ESPN; Ovie photo via Addison Huber]

• Weirdness from the Dallas Stars ownership situation: Sportsnet reported that Calgary Billionaire Bill Gallacher was out of the running, and later reported that a local group including Tom Hicks could be in line to purchase the team. ESPN Dallas has more: "It's believed that Canadian businessman Tom Gaglardi remains interested, but nothing appears imminent." [Defending Big D]

• Bob McKenzie on the Detroit Red Wings: "Whether that's good enough to unseat the champion Blackhawks, or fend off the charging Canucks or Sharks or whomever remains to be seen, but there's still something to be said for the Red Wings' pedigree...if they're healthy." [TSN]

• "After 409 consecutive sellouts - every exhibition, regular-season and playoff game in nine seasons - the honeymoon between the Wild and their fans might be over." Also, the Wild lost money last season in their second straight non-playoff year. [TwinCities.com]

• Amy Shipley of the Washington Post talks to FAN 590 about the guilty plea for steroid possession of Douglas Nagel, who had Capitals players as chiropractic clients. [FAN 590, and read Nagel's affidavit]

Very interesting topic via Kukla: Will we ever see a Winter Classic in a non-NHL city? (Hint, NHL: It rhymes with "Schlambeau.") [Times Transcript]

• Interesting look at Sergei Kostitsyn(notes) and the Nashville Predators, including Patrick Kane(notes) saying it's "mindboggling" that he hasn't found more success in the NHL. [Tennessean

Teemu Selanne(notes) is feeling optimistic about this Anaheim Ducks team. [THN]

• Brian Burke on the Toronto Maple Leafs ever playing the trap: ""First and foremost, I'm in the entertainment business. I make no bones about that. We do not trap. We hit in all three zones. We trade chances. We fight. I like the style Ron plays. I need people to feel that the team is a good investment on nights we win and on nights we don't." [Toronto Sun]

• Hilarious Yahoo! goof from Puck Buddy Aaron C.: "Tonight I was following the Avs vs. Blues pre-season game on my Yahoo! Sportacular iPhone app.  I got an alert when the Avs scored their third goal and was surprised and happy to see that Joe Sakic(notes) got an assist.  I took a screen shot for your enjoyment."

• "One thing is clear as the Canadiens head into a new NHL season this fall: in order for the Habs to make another deep post-season run, it is critical that the young players on the team emerge as capable support for the big-money earning foursome of Gomez, Gionta, Cammalleri, and Plekanec." [Habs Blog]

• Hockey Independent on Charles Wang's press conference with the New York Islanders: "Mr. Wang finally offered some sage information to the Islander faithful. Essentially, we shouldn't worry, because the NY Islanders will play out their deal with Nassau County until 2015. Wow. A whole year and all we got was basically what we already knew. I suppose that little nugget of confirmation is better than the silence. Maybe?" [HI]

• He's only 21, but it feels like Oscar Moller(notes) has been vying for a Los Angeles Kings roster spot for the last 12 years. [LA Kings Insider]

• Ian Mendes, writing about Ottawa Senators center Mike Fisher(notes): "Much like unicorns, Big Foot or a local investor for the Phoenix Coyotes a second-line centre is a mythical creature." [Sportsnet]

Nathan Horton(notes) and Tyler Seguin(notes) will make their debuts for the Boston Bruins tonight. [NESN]

• The London Knights have traded Kalle Ekelund, which we're pretty sure would have been Pelle Eklund's name in a hockey video game that failed to secure NHLPA licensing rights. [Knights]

• Finally, here are Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews(notes) of the Chicago Blackhawks delivering that awesome Blackhawks Camaro to a lucky fan. (Video or click image)
