Here are your Puck Headlines: A glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• Our hearts be still: "Twilight: New Moon" star Taylor Lautner and country princess Taylor Swift attended the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center in Los Angeles last night. We can only hope this union produces a celebrity spawn that both loves the NHL and can turn into a murderous werewolf when interrupted by Kanye West. [NHL]
• Is Mile High Hockey starting to sip the sweet nectar of Colorado Avalanche 2009-10 Kool-Aid? "At what point do we start to wonder if the early dominance of the Avs isn't actually a fluke?" [MHH]
• Your NHL Three Star selections for the week ending Oct. 25: Los Angeles Kings center Anze Kopitar(notes), Montreal Canadiens left wing Mike Cammalleri and San Jose Sharks center Patrick Marleau(notes). [NHL]
• NHL VP Colin Campbell on the Rob Scuderi(notes) hit, via NHL Live: "Fortunately, it's not one of these things where they play the next night. We can look at it, the number of games we had over the weekend and the incidents, and you deal with them in time. We're looking at it, and I can't say... We'll deal with it. I can't say what it's going to be, but we'll deal with all of those before the teams play their next games, one way or the other." [Kings Insider]
• The return of Martin Havlat(notes) tonight in Chicago makes James Neveau wonder: Should the Chicago Blackhawks have spared themselves the Hossa headaches and re-signed Havlat? [The Hockey Writers]
• Spector: "Expect the 'Kostitsyn brothers to Edmonton' rumors to start flying on the Internet very soon." [THN]
• Some New York Islanders fans are fighting to bring "Rock and Roll Part 2" back to the Nassau Coliseum, which is a leap of faith that (a) online petitions work and (b) the Islanders will actually have enough fans in the building to warrant a sing-along to the "Hey" song. [The Petition Site]
• Oh dear. We can only assume someone at NHL.com is either very aware or blissfully unaware of Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown's(notes) videographic, ahem, body of work. [Thanks to Puck Buddy Mike S., and if you don't get the reference, search for the punchline at your own risk.]
• Advice for Toronto Maple Leafs Coach Ron Wilson on how to turn the winless team around, from Mike Keenan nostalgia to the power of mystical pyramids under the bench. [Razor With An Edge]
• Greener at PPP asks the Leafs to turn their heads and cough, proving that the mainstream media apparently aren't the only ones that have the team by the ... cough cough. [PPP]
• The Carolina Hurricanes placed Stephane Yelle(notes) waivers after the veteran center was a free-agent bust in first few games of the season. Let's hope he finds another NHL team to sign with, because at four franchises in his career it's actually hard to call Stephane Yelle a journeyman. [Canes Country]
• A very nice evaluation of the Nashville Predators thus far, pointing to the need for this team to develop some sort of identity beyond "we do more with less every season." [Section 303]
• Brian Gionta(notes): Montreal Canadiens captain? Again, whenever we hear this, we expect to also hear "by default." [Dixon]
• In praise of Bob Gainey's plan for the Habs. [LeBrun]

• The Pittsburgh Penguins dropped a couple of odd photos on their Twitter feed this morning, as Marc-Andre Fleury(notes) was feeling green and Eric Godard(notes) began his erotic exploration of the Plushie world (right). Honestly, if the NHL is serious about cutting down on the number of head injuries in the game, then the mandatory use of giant Care Bear heads by goons should be, like, top of the list. [@pghpenguins]
• Alexander Semin(notes) is feeling the mandatory-for-Alex-Semin 100.1% and is back on the ice for the Washington Capitals, playing with partners in crime Alexander Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom(notes). [Capitals Insider]
• The Capitals announce they have a new, live video podcast called (buffering .... buffering ... buffering ...) Caps On the Fly. [Capitals]
• The New Jersey Devils will be without Jay Pandolfo(notes) and Paul Martin(notes) for at least a month, but honestly a dodged a bullet with these injuries sustained over the weekend. Especially in the case of Martin, who has a fractured arm that won't require surgery. The Devils are wafer-thin on the blueline, and losing Martin would have been a huge setback. [Fire & Ice]
• TSN brings back the million dollar shootout. Are the Coyotes allowed to participate, for fundraising's sake? [TSN]
• Kyle Turris(notes) remains one of the most intriguing subplots of the Phoenix Coyotes season, as the No. 3 overall pick in 2007 toils in the AHL while attempting to climb back to the big club. The good news for Turris is that there's always Thomas Hickey(notes) and Karl Alzner(notes) that are still gestating with him from that draft. [NHL.com]
• Finally, a few of you have mentioned Ryan Kesler(notes) going Bo Jackson on his stick in last night's win over the Edmonton Oilers, and Dave Staples is none too pleased with the Vancouver Canucks center on Cult of Hockey: "The way Kesler broke his stick in a hissy fit after Tom Gilbert(notes) stopped him on a scoring chance, that was disgusting. Now, maybe there was something wrong with that stick that I didn't see, but if that guy snapped a $200 hockey stick just because his feelings were hurt, it reinforces the notion that players make too much money and that they are spoiled brats."
OK, that's valid ... but c'mon, this is awesome:

Huh? You can make an argument that w/ Havlat having only one goal and being @ a -8, Hossa is already having a better season to date. So what headache are we talking about?(other than $$$, of course.)

If the defenseman is able to play the puck away from the offensive player by touching the puck with his stick before he hits any part of the offensive player, it is just good defense.
If the defenseman makes contact with the player and either does not get the puck or takes the player out with the force of his body or his stick, the referee should call a penalty. If it was a clear breakaway the referee can award a penalty shot. That was a very good veteran defensive and definitely not worthy of a penalty shot. But, a penalty could have been called for taking Kesler down. But, the referee is looking at it with his eyes looking at Kesler's back and is unable to see clearly what Gilbert is doing. Of course, we all have the benefit of seeing the replays and seeing it in slo-mo which makes it a lot easier for the rest of us, but not to the person who ultimately is responsible for making the call. Honestly, I was ok with the no-call.
