Puck Daddy - NHL

Yippee! Blackouts are awesome! If it weren't for some unfortunate power failures on the East Coast, this would have been up this afternoon. Instead, here are your Evening Puck Headlines: A glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• NBC took a load of heat for the way it handled overtime on Preakness Saturday during the Eastern Conference Finals last postseason. Well, the Peacock is contractually obligated to leave the Dallas Stars/Detroit Red Wings Game 5 for Big Brown's inevitable win in the Preakness. So its hockey coverage has a three-hour window to complete the game -- good for one overtime, NBC believes -- before action shifts to Versus. [Dallas Stars Blog]

• Yes, Sean Avery is actually an intern at Vogue. And yes, his internship has officially started. Countdown to manufactured romance with L.C. from The Hills in 3...2...1... [Deadspin]

Carolina Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford claims that refusing to give Coach Peter Laviolette a vote of confidence was standard operating procedure, at least before Laviolette met with owner Peter Karmanos. We are quite happy that Carolina Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford is not our boss. [Lord Stanley's Blog]

Tomas Holmstrom, on crashing the crease: "I think the goalies are pretty good, too, to fake when they get hit and stuff like that.  Of course, they have their blue paint to be in.  But, you know, sometimes they fake it well, too." Also, he doesn't believe he needs to shed any weight from his giant T-Ho rump. [NHL.com]

• Welcome to Randy Jones country, bitch. [Telegraph Journal]

• Barry Melrose wants to coach again, and believes that the job in San Jose is the best one available. OK, here's the deal: The Mullet can coach the Sharks as long as Roenick's on the roster, and they give joint press conferences after every game. [Sharkspage]

• The Ottawa Citizen collects every rumor about John Tortorella whispered in the last two months, tosses them together and decides that Torts is the next head coach of the Senators. [Faceoff]

• Offended with Sidney's facial hair? The good men of the Brotherhood Of Mustached and Bearded Studs Tired of Accepting Criticism for Hairface Endeavors, or BOMBSTACHE for short, would like a word with you. [MYFO]

• Canada and Russia are the last teams standing in the IIHF World Championships, and are scheduled to play a game that will be more entertaining that 95% of what we've seen in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. [Globe & Mail]

• Japers found an awesome Web site: HockeyZonePlus, which offers users the chance to research the salary history of players going back to 1989. So JP took a gander at the Washington Capitals' salary history, and discovered that the Caps have spent more on Adam Oates than they have on Alexander Ovechkin.

• Finally, Flyers fans aren't the strongest spellers. So why, The Hockey Show, did you decide to give that nice young man with the painted chest "V-a-n-b-i-e-s-b-r-o-u-c-k?"

apparently the game doesn't even need to be played, according to the wings fans, so we might as well put horse racing on. why do you even bother to watch the games?

There are NO CHEERLEADERS in real hockey. They're a Gary Buttman-era thing. They belong at a football or basketball game, or maybe on a calendar. They've cropped up in those expansion and transplant cities where the fans boo offsides calls that go against their team, or they can't get the goalie-name chant thing right, and stupid things like that. Fake as their cakey make-up! GO WINGS!

Morrow delivers a crushing hit to Chelios and he has to be put down for humane reasons. The Wings are so devastated they fail to win another game.
And Hank, there`s no "h" in SURE. Let`s here it for the Detroit educational system!!!

Try being a hockey fan in Baltimore on Preakness day. We're not even getting the game because we have to watch the hags from the local news wear scary hats and interview drunk people in the infield. Glorious!

...team owners allow bettman to stay on as commissioner if he personally puts the "ice girls" down for humane reasons...
...so bettman bores them to death w/ his inconclusive pablum-y dreck...

100,000 people at Pimlico? What is this nascar? Aren't races less than 2 minutes? Why the heck would you waste all that time to go watch a bunch of horses be abused by drunken midgets?
I have to agree with 9 here...those ice girls are meh...it's friggin Dallas there should be some pretty hot women running around shaking their "pom poms"...why don't the stars just get the dallas cowboys cheerleaders?

Great game Dallas Stars against those cocky Wings. Let's here it now for all the whining that is about to hit these blogs from Wings fans. I am trying to get a bet going which part of the game they will say was a bad call and the refs stole this game. Any takers? lmao The league has a conspiracy against the wings and scored all the goals for Dallas again today cause the Wings should never lose period, as their fans believe. The stars couldn't have just beaten them, so what is it wings fans now that there is a game 6 and your wings aren't dominating anymore?GO STARS!!!! BELIEVE BABY!!!!

btw , Turco and his mostly rookie defense was stellar and close to being spectacular. Osgood was basically a common goalie and the same all this playoff's. He has the best defense in front of him and thats why he doesnt have to make saves. Osgood would be nothing if he had to make as many saves as the rest of the league, based on his save %. Wtg Turco on a great effort and finally getting that octapus off your back.

Hey Wings fans, You can keep talking trash, but this is a best of 7 series and it ain't over until the fat lady sings. By the way she lives in Detroit and she will be singing for the Stars victory there this week. Your team is very talented but they are no match for the grit that the Stars have. History was made today and will be made again. GO STARS!!!! What a game by Turco! Good job by him and his young defense.

It's kind of funny that the Wings fans aren't saying much today. Hey danny, I agree with you. How long is it before we hear some whining about officiating this time? WTG Turco!

Are you kidding me, with all of the beautiful girls in Texas, these girls are the best the Stars can do. With the outfits and makeup, they attract your eye, but when you get right down to it they are not stunning beauties. The one on the bottom right must be Bettman's daughter.
