Puck Daddy - NHL

Here are your Morning Puck Headlines (OK, at least on the West Coast): A glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• "Finally, after all these years, a legitimate connection between the Hurricanes and NASCAR, which should be wonderful news for hundreds of lazy Canadian journalists and radio hosts." Plus-1 to you, Luke DeCock. [News & Observer, H/T to reader Mike Foley]

• Terrific breakdown of NHL average ticket prices that reveals that the average Vancouver Canucks ticket is worth 9.12 Phoenix Coyotes tickets. Ah, remember those halcyon days when Canucks tickets were $8.99? [Globe & Mail]

• Daniel Tolensky discovers that "Boots" Del Biaggio was an investor in Jeremy Roenick's T-shirt company and wonders if the NHL should be concerned that an owner was investing in a player's business. Well, if they weren't concerned about two other owners investing in an owner that had no money, so he could buy into the Nashville Predators ... [Tolensky]

• The Ottawa Senators want you to know that they have a Swedish guy in their team and have talked with Mats Sundin. [Sun Media]

Craig Rivet hearts Buffalo, and Buffalo Sabres fans heart their new captain. [Sabretooth's House]

Joe Sakic reveals his World Series fantasy, involving the painful defeat of the Boston Red Sox. On a Manny Ramirez grand slam no less. [Stanley Cup of Chowder]

• A loving valentine to Tomas Kaberle, as one Toronto Maple Leafs fan celebrates 10 years for the defenseman. [Sports and the City]

• The pros and cons of the New York Rangers' decision about Brendan Shanahan. "The NHL doesn't have player/coaches anymore and that would be a perfect role for him to step into, especially on a team in transition like the Rangers." [Scotty Hockey]

• Battle of California sums up Kings defenseman Tom Preissing's blog for the team. [BoC]

• Bold prediction from San Jose Sharks broadcaster Randy Hahn: "The Sharks will meet Minnesota in the first round of the playoffs, Anaheim in the second round and Detroit in the Conference Final." Uh, homer much? [Seagate Blog]

Nikolai Khabibulin finally speaks to the media about still being with the Chicago Blackhawks; successfully avoids expletives in either English or Russian. [Third Man In]

Dustin Penner is goofy: "Penner waited till it was dark on Tuesday night, dressed up in a mask from the movie Saw, and began scaring the daylights out of his teammates at the Jasper Park Lodge." Oren Koules would like his royalties. [Sun Media]

• The Montreal Canadiens are asking Andrei Markov to shoot more. That's sort of mandatory for a power-play point man, isn't it? [Gazette]

• Finally, Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins went Off the Record on TSN, and took part in the usual fun of the "next question" segment:

That razorgator site is very misleading.
First it is a site that buys and sells tix. 2nd it is finding a low price ticket for 1 game using a special unadvertised promotion and using it as the low for a seaon.

Strange. I have an upper deck seat for the Capitals home opener and face value on that ticket is $40. That ticket prices article says the lowest is $84. Maybe that's the lowest price for lower bowl only?

Oddly enough people don't resell tickets for less than face value very often.

Rumpel, I'm sure he has his reasons, and I doubt ignorance is one of them.
I'm not 100% on how absentee ballots work although I have voted that way several times while in the military, but did you ever think that a country might not be willing to sent their ballot TO ANOTHER COUNTRY? And it's not like Cole Harbour is exactly a short drive down 376 East. With the Penguins playing on October 14 in Pittsburgh, the same day as the General Election, it is not practical to fly home, spent a few minutes voting, and fly back to play a game later that night. I have driven a few hundred miles to play a game that same night, and although I'm not in the same condition as Crosby, I can tell you from experience that it sucks.

Twenty years ago, I got a ticket to a Canucks game 12 rows behind the players' bench for $24. So $9 for upper bowl (remember, it was the Colosseum, not GM place) would seem about right.
Reading the GHL article correctly: "Razorgator.com....has listed _ITS_ ticket prices..." So it's scalper prices showing an example of Supply and Demand at work, It would also explain why nobody cheers at Canucks games unless the jumbotron tells them to. It's full of rich suits that can afford it but who don't know squat.

funny thing, people can just walk up to the box office in jersey or long island and get as many nhl tickets as they can pay for. wonder why that is, seeing as the rangers home tickets are sold out before the season even starts, for the second year in a row .......and those "legal" ticket re-sellers should be outlawed. no pro team should endorse this practice and they really should be sued for allowing/endorsing/profiting from it. it is bs and just another way pro sports teams rape their fans for profit, like the original ticket price isn't enough of a rape job.

The NASCAR to Carolina Hurricanes analogy is one thing. But down in the TRIAD, they love themselves some Wrasslin' (and college sports). Dale Jr don't come on that there Jumbo-tron when the Canes kick a homerun past the point guard. Nature Boy Rick Flair give you a good ol' Woo! woo-woo! when the Canes knock that puck thing in the cage.
The John Deere Zamboni's are a little cliche though.

Good god, Crosby is about as exciting as dry turkey on rye. I know he's the butter to Bettman's bread, but for Christ's sake, would it kill the NHL to promote some characters?

Sundin will not end up with Ottawa, I don't believe they can handle the cap hit, and once again that would be an absolute insult to pull that crap. they arleady have A swedish captain, they don't need two.
