Puck Daddy - NHL

Here are your Evening Puck Headlines: A glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• John Dellapina of the NY Daily News heard the news this morning that Wrigley Field may have been handed the next Winter Classic instead of the venerable Yankee Stadium. And he respectfully disagrees, because "it ain't Yankee Stadium" and "it will be there next year and the year after, while Yankee Stadium won't."

• Cross one name off the list of the Phoenix Coyotes' burgeoning young stars: Blake Wheeler is becoming an unrestricted free agent, who rejected a last-ditch deal. [NHL.com]

• The numbers aren't there yet, but Evegni Malkin is slowly finding his game again. [PensBurgh]

• Finny from Hockey Ladies of Greatness is happy to finally have a chance to check out the sex and bad acting on "MVP: The Secret Lives of Hockey Wives," coming this summer to SOAPNet. [HLOG]

• Searching for meaning in the NHL's impressive television ratings. Or, how to explain modest success to a mainstream media with a real fetish about seeing hockey fail. [FanHouse]

• When the New York Islander say, "Chris Campoli will make team history tonight," what's the first thing you think about? And how far away from that thought is Campoli becoming the first Islander on Canada's version of "TRL?" [NHL.com]

Patrick O'Sullivan discusses playing at the World Championships, and the present and future of the Los Angeles Kings. [Inside the Kings]

Alexander Ovechkin says that Sergei Fedorov wants to come back to the Washington Capitals. And if he plays as well as he did in the postseason, they'd welcome him back. [CP]

• Finally, the moment you've all been waiting for: Sidney Crosby's beard finally speaks! [The Hockey News]

I believe this was already discussed, wasn't it? And New York does not want the last sporting event to be played in Yankee Stadium to be a hockey game.... baseball ends in October, the outdoor classic is in Jan.. do the math.

I can see Yankees management and YES network being apathetic at best to this event. Remember that other big sports network MSG, I, II, III, etc. etc.? (Also referred to as 'the competition')This city's sports territories have been sliced up into their respective kingdoms, each guarded by the pitbulls who own teams and media outlets.
We'll be watching the wind blow the net off its pegs in Chi. this New Year's Day.
