Puck Daddy - NHL

Here are your Morning Puck Headlines: A glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• FYI: My PC was infected with a mighty virus last night, crippling its firewalls and giving me the blue screen of death whenever I reboot it. So I'm stuck with a Mac Book that makes our posts look like they're done sans spacebar, and a desktop PC that is slightly older than the Atari 2600. Thanks for the patience today. And for you nerds about to get all Mac-superior on PC boy: Byte me.

• Tom Jones of Scripps News gives puckheads something to sink their teeth into: The top eight players who had the most impact in the last decade. Now, the argument can be made for Martin Brodeur at No. 1; but Jaromir Jagr over Nicklas Lidstrom? Mats Sundin and Alexei Yashin even on this list? Waaaah? [Scripps]

Edmonton Oilers president Kevin Lowe lashes out at the NHL for scheduling games on HOF induction day and for the secretive "blackballing" that kept his friend and former teammate Glenn Anderson out of the Hall until this season. We call them "standards." [Sun Media]

Detroit Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood has his eyes on 400 career wins. Of the nine goalies that are over the 400 mark, six of them are in the Hall of Fame and one of the remaining three is named Marty Brodeur. [Snapshots]

• ESPN seems to have abandoned its NHL rankings, which has caused a small reader mutiny. Curiously, the poker rankings are updated on the hour ... [Deadspin]

• That said, great piece by Pierre LeBrun about Igor Larionov's induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame today, chronicling his journey from Russian legend to NHL champion, and getting some commentary from Wayne Gretzky along the way. [ESPN]

• A second team in Toronto would be worth close to $600 million, and the Toronto Maple Leafs would get a one-time territorial fee of $250 million. Remind us again why this isn't going to happen? [Globe & Mail]

• So far, Devin Setoguchi of the San Jose Sharks deserves as much praise as his 2005 draft classmate Sidney Crosby. And yet only one of them is on the All-Star ballot. [Fear the Fin]

• Video: Behind the scenes of a 10-page fashion shoot with the New York Rangers for Men's Journal magazine. Over/under on the number of times Sean Avery replays this video to make snarky Joan Rivers-like comments: 37. [The Hockey Show]

• Speaking of Avery: Larry Brooks overreacts to the comparisons being made between the former Ranger and current Blueshirt agitator Aaron Voros. [NY Post]

• TV news from the NHL: "Twenty one of the 30 teams had local ratings that were higher than or on par with those from a year ago." Combine this with the NHL's "record" attendance in October, and there are a ton of people watching hockey this season. Or at least slightly more than did last season.  [NHL]

Sergei Fedorov, Shaone Morrisonn and Viktor Kozlov are out for the Washington Capitals tonight against Olaf Kolzig and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Brent Johnson gets the call in goal again over Jose Theodore. What goalie controversy? [Capitals Insider]

• Finally, someone please tell Leahy that there's an Irish-American hockey tournament that's sponsored by Guinness. If the NHL plays in Dublin, we're so there.

Where is this most glorious of tournaments held so that I may play hockey and drink the Irish goodness until I start skating like Derian Hatcher?

Jagr is higher in impact... negative impact. I could not be happier Jagr is gone. I see that as the sole reason why the Rangers are doing so well so far this season.
If ESPN's power rankings were anything like their Fantasy Hockey draft rankings, then there is no tear shed here.

ESPN is a joke. They had friggin some kind of dog racing on over the weekend. And not racing like greyhounds or something that might, and I stress the word might, be slightly entertaining. But little, fluffy, fur balls of dogs that are good for nothing more than punting practice, imho. Seriously. Dog racing!! Did you not have a poker tournament or hot dog eating contest to televise? Homers.
Setoguchi is getting robbed. Then again, so is Clowe. Just wait until Mitchell gets back. This Sharks club has bite (thanks to McLovin').

@ everyone who hates macs: if you actually tried one for longer than a day, the vast majority of you would love it except for the geeky PC repairmen. Trust me, I was skeptical about Macs until I actually bought one to have as my personal laptop, and I love it now. Never will go back to Windows. Plus I can boot up Windows right on my desktop with my mac if I want anyways. Now, back to hockey....Lidstrom over Jagr, cause he has stood the test of time. Jagr was (typically) nothing after he left Lemieux & Co.

I went into a Mac store once. They asked me what kind of computor I was looking for and I said I was looking for something to write documents, surf the web, listen to music, and preferrably one that didn't come with an air of overbearing pretentiousness.
Even after chekcing the back stockroom, they still couldn't find anything like that...

that list is a pile of camel crap for more reason's than 2, 4, 5, and 6.
2 & 4 - are whiners and have complained so much about the old nhl, which has caused a new girly nhl.
5 - do the maple leafs have a picture of sundin's mug on their jerseys or is it a blue leaf? did the leafs win the cup, because of sundin and i missed it?
6 - vinny, vinny, vinny. you don't have very far to travel to when your ready to retire. who care's about hockey in florida anyway?
7 - 8 are the two most influential people in the world of the nhl. the beginning of the lockout and the salary cap and unnecessary violence on the ice.

@ KBBL: you either 1) went to a bad Apple Store and should've come to the one in Charlotte
    2) are lying
    3) have an unusual definition of pretentiousness, or
    4) you and/or the salesperson was high on something that I would love to try sometime.
MacBook Pro is one of the best in the business when it comes to laptops (that goes for you too Wysh). You can do everything you are talking about in your post very easily with any Mac. Not sure what you are talking about there.

That poker is even mentioned in the same breath as sports is just pathetic. What's next, Power Blackjack Rankings? Please.
As for the Mac comment....the only reason I will hold having a Mac against you is because your money went to pay for those asinine commercials. That $10M that the PC guy asks for in the bake sale one - that would be the money Bill Gates loaned Apple so they didn't have to file for bankruptcy. Way to repay your "friend," Mr. Jobs.

the only place "Marty" is number 1 in impact is in his local grocery store's bakery department. OK, I amend this, a second place he's had #1 impact is in "flopping in the crease". Otherwise he is just another fat crybaby overrated idol to cigar-chomping internet-virus-infected blog writers.
Are you getting a new computer, or are you just going to reformat and start over?
Oh and for the record, Scott "Floating is fun" Gomez is a one dimensional waste of cap space.
