Puck Daddy - NHL

Here are your Evening Puck Headlines and Previews: A glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

Preview: Buffalo Sabres at Pittsburgh Penguins (7:30 p.m. EST; TV: VS). Darren Eliot of Sports Illustrated writes that "the feat of finishing 1-2 has happened only five times in the last quarter century," and analyzes the multitude of reasons why Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin could do it this season even though they're both centers. There's a dude in D.C. who might have something to say about that. No, not Tom Poti.

• Scotty Hockey clarifies when New York Rangers fans will or will not boo the home team. Won't: When they play with heart. Will: When their name is Tom Poti. [Scotty Hockey]

• Tom Hicks and the Dallas Stars brain-trust could decide Sean Avery's fate with the team by Wednesday. From Hicks: "Certainly when [Dallas head coach] Dave Tippett comes out and stakes his claim, it's pretty hard to overcome that." Recall Tippett basically said Avery couldn't return to the locker room. [Sportsnet]

Preview: Tampa Bay Lightning at Boston Bruins (7 p.m. EST; TV: SUN, NESN). With all this Radim Vrbata stuff and Ryan Malone's untimely upper body injury and the general state of affairs, Tampa Bay could use some good news. So here it is: Jeff Halpern is nearly back from reconstructive knee surgery, and could return to the NHL by Dec. 18. Bruins Blog reports no Aaron Ward or Marco Sturm tonight, while Tim Thomas gets the call in goal.

• Bruce "Malkin to the Kings" Garrioch plays the "you flew here in a private jet to ask for money?" card by wondering why the NHL's Board of Governors are holding their meeting at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach this week. Well, obviously it's hard to get a table for 40 at the local Denny's for six hours. So when do the Ottawa Sun columnists start paying for their own plane tickets in order to pass the savings to the financially-strapped readers? [Off the Posts]

• Can Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators unseat Nicklas Lidstrom for the Norris Trophy? [ESPN]

Preview: Florida Panthers at Ottawa Senators (7:30 p.m. EST; TV: FSFL, RSN). Jason Spezza has been working his rump off lately, and getting results in the form of Ottawa's last three game-winning goals. Plenty of injured Panthers worked out during practice; now how many will play? Craig Anderson should get the call tonight in goal.

• An interview with Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) President and CEO Richard Peddie, who says he'd rather be stuck in a room with Leafs fans than with school teachers "because they're all passionate and they'd come with their faces painted." The fans, not the ... you get it. [The Good Point]

Roberto Luongo is cautiously targeting Saturday for his return for the Vancouver Canucks and fantasy owners with one foot on the ledge. [Waiting for Stanley]

Preview: New York Islanders at Toronto Maple Leafs (7:30 p.m. EST; TV: MSG, RSN). World are colliding, as Lighthouse Hockey has Pension Plan Puppets provide the Leafs' perspective on tonight's tilt. Including whether we'll see a 197-foot goal tonight.

• The Detroit Red Wings received their Stanley Cup rings over the weekend. Nicklas Lidstrom, Tomas Holmstrom, Kris Draper, Kirk Maltby and Darren McCarty all have four rings. Goodness. [Khan!]

Preview: St. Louis Blues at Nashville Predators (8:30 p.m. EST; TV: FSS, FSMW). Two teams with goaltending controversies? The Blues are convinced they don't have one because Manny Legace and Chris Mason as such good buddies. Meanwhile, first star of the week Pekka Rinne takes a shutout streak of 103 minutes, 38 seconds into tonight's game. Dan Ellis could back him up tonight.

• Finally, from Puck Daddy reader Scott, it's Los Angeles Kings legend Luc Robitaille on the set of "Bones" with star David Boreanaz. And also Heidi Androl. Angel's a Flyers fan, in case you didn't know.

Sabres-Pens? Is that a re-match at Ralph Wilson Stadium? It's available since the Bills weren't using that venue this week.

The Hansons ought to be ashamed of themselves. They crapped on their legend. And Canada again with a garbadge hockey movie. Canada gets a 10 minute major for makin that P.O.S.
Wyshynski Slapshot 3 is a Taco Bell/White Castle Old Millwaukee combo fart of a movie. Oooooooooof.

If Crosby and Malkin finish 1-2 in scoring, can either be consider most valuable to his team? If they he (which ever) wasn't there, the Penguins would still have the other.

If the Refs keep awarding 5 on 3s to Cindy and the Pens at this rate, how could they not finish 1 -2... I need to get DVR... I'd love to check out that Dupuis hit on Numminen... that looked pretty "from behind" as I saw it...

Every talks about Alex-O who is a GREAT, GREAT player BUT if add up the total shot that Malkin AND Crosby take it only about 10 more that Alex-O, Alex-O is like a black hole.....whenever the puck goes to him it doesn't come pout unless it's a shot on goal, if you give Sid the Kid or the Mighty Malkin the same amount of shot they both would have 160+ point seasons!!!
Alex-O is like I said is one of the top 3 players in the NHL(with Crosby & Malkin being the other two) BUT he has one of the worst shot percentages in the league!!!

Yes! Malkin and Crosby are way ahead of Ovechkin. And they're both on Pittsburgh. They are really nice. Crosby helped a hurt Detroit player.
As for Dallas, things aren't going as great. So Dave Tippett won't let him back? How stupid! He'll get his own natural consequence if he does that. I don't think that'd be very likely.

    @the_lucas_group
While I see what you are trying to say (AO's shot percentage isn't much, yep) I think you are looking at it kinds oddly. You say if you "gave" Sid and Malkin that many shots like shot chances are something that are bestowed upon the worthy or rain down from the sky. You have to give AO credit for generating that many shots when you consider his goal total and shooting percentage. The guy is a high energy, powerful skating, opportunity generating MACHINE on the ice, you can't completely disregard that.
That said, I think Sid and Geno could very well have a 1-2 if they can both stay healthy. We'll have to see where the season goes from here, obviously, but it would be interesting to see.

Watching Sidney Crosby run around and cry is a joke for the NHL. Wayne or Mario need to sit his cry baby ass down and tell him not to whine so much when things go wrong. He is a disgrace to hockey. I watch him slash nets and punch guys after the whustle when the ref has his opponet tied up for him so he can take a cheap shot. He is no better than Sean Avery at times and the league will go down hard if they continue to promote his childish ways.

Crosby is a [profane] and the league's Golden Boy. The refs make him untouchable. If he could get run like other players, his stats would only be average.

anyone who thinks crosby or malkin are wusses is not a hockey fan, i don't even live in pittsburgh but do recognize they are 2 of the best players in hockey today. ovechkin will give them a run for the title however. so yes it is possible for them to finish 1&2. ya heard it here!!

Oh my God... Sidney's name does kinda sound like Cindy. And maybe it's really Alexandra Ovechkin, and Semin kinda sounds like semen. I think Briere's first name is really Danielle. And does anybody realize you could say Pavel's last name Datsuck?
Retards. Besides Pittsburgh and Detroit.... was your team led to the finals by great players? Crosby is a captain, and his job is to talk to the refs. When Mike [profane]ards (wow, there's another funny one) complains to the refs... Philly cheers. Lidstrom... same.
Watch the games, enjoy them, remember them. You're watching great players play great hockey. Just because they don't play in your crapass cities doesn't mean you can't enjoy the game they play.
