Here are your Morning Puck Headlines: A glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.
• Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Mike Commodore signed a five-year, $18.75 million free-agent deal that some criticized as being excessive. He's not going to take that anymore. "My buddies told me (TSN's) Pierre McGuire was running his mouth off and I couldn't care less. Whether I deserve it or not is not up to guys like Pierre McGuire. I've worked hard to get where I am. The market is at where it's at." [Calgary Sun]
• Jason Pominville is blogging for the Buffalo Sabres. Or one of the Sabres PR guys is blogging as Jason Pominville for the Buffalo Sabres. You can never really tell with these things. [Sabres]
• Why ConkBlock will be invaluable to the Detroit Red Wings when the Winter Classic rolls around. [Detroit News]
• Please remember to vote Bacon Bits, Baby Backs or Applesauce. [Iowa Chops]
• Steven Ovadia on the Blackhawks' goalie logjam and in defense of chubby net-minders. "I kind of think goalies should be as big as possible. Let's be honest. Nothing would have gotten past Orson Welles." [Puck Update]
• Patrice Bergeron has a four-point night for the Boston Bruins, and all of a sudden we feel much better about picking them for second place in the Northeast. [Boston Globe]
• Pretty cool feature: The Washington Post puts a mic on Capitals prospect Josh Godfrey for a scrimmage. [Capitals Insider]
• While it doesn't have the urgency of last season's, the Nashville Predators are once again holding an all-day rally for fans and ticket sales to fans. Hopefully it goes well, because the Preds are behind on season-ticket sales but ahead on group sales. [Tennessean]
• Hey, we've been online since April. We'll take being the No. 4 hockey blog. Even if Men's Journal thinks we're the best. (Ed. Note: Whoot!) [Greatest Hockey Legends]
• Finally, here's some video of the Torrey Mitchell injury from San Jose Sharks camp and its aftermath:

No bandwagon when it comes to RedWing fans...just die-hard fans through thick and thin. The Joe was sold out when Stevie 'Y' was a rookie and the team sucked. All you Red Wing haters can just cry in your beer and watch the dynasty continue...longest running playoff streak in professional sports!!!

McGuire's dead right on he's overpaid, then again, so are 90% of the free agent signings. Are you smelling another lockout on the horizon? i do. Once again, caused by the owners ovrerpaying for help.

I'm really not sure what you're trying to say here. That we suck? That we don't suck enough? That we suck up too much?
Seriously, whatever accolades come in for the blog are icing on the cupcake. We're proud of what we do, we have fun, and if some people don't enjoy our particular brand of whimsy, then turn the dial and listen to the soft rock station.

And amen to someone telling McGuire to shut it.
I sent him an email on July 1 asking why he was using the argument of Huet's contract being worth more than Brodeur's as a reason for Huet being overpaid. Regardless of that contract being bad, I don't think you can use a 2 1/2 year old contract as a comparable in light of the skyrocketing marketplace.
He never seemed to get that I still thought Huet was overpriced, but not based on Brodeur's contract. He actually never seemed to listen at all and just wanted to keep pressing his one talking point.
But I was impressed that he answered so quickly given that he gets 250 emails a day. Or so he says...

I'll agree the Red Wings are great. Hockey is great in part because of the Red Wings lore, not their fans, who Im sure already have a list of reasons why their beloved Wings got K.O.d in the first round by Phoenix or Vancouver or Columbus or some other long shot.
