For the record, Puck Daddy contest MVP David Cicirelli sent in the image above after the final buzzer. But oh, what a glorious entry it was.
The Puck Daddy Sports Illustrated Create-a-Cover Contest is in the books, and the judging is complete. Gallery One and Gallery Two were a visual feast, but Leahy and I have selected three winners from nearly 100 (usable) entries that you can see in the Flickr gallery and here in this dandy viewing module.
Coming up, your Create-a-Cover champions.
And here ... we ... go.
Third Place: Congrats to Matt Bachovchin of Naperville, Ill., for this cynical look at the Washington Capitals SI cover that never was. You, sir, win the mysterious Yahoo! Sports prize pack.
Second Place: Mike H for this inspired "Sports Illustrated" meets "Teen Beat" cover, which manages to cram every meme and celebrity relationship in the NHL into one cover. Great work. You, sir, win Sports Illustrated's "The Hockey Book," available now in bookstores and on Amazon.
And finally ....
First Place: The "Canadian Swimsuit Issue" cover by "zyllyx" just barely edged out the "Teen Beat" submission for the top spot. But "Poolside in the ‘Peg" just killed us. You, sir, win Sports Illustrated's "The Hockey Book," available now in bookstores and on Amazon, as well as a copy of the Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup Champions DVD courtesy of Warner Home Video.
Thanks a ton to everyone who entered. If you see any entries missing from the gallery, emails us at firstname.lastname@example.org. To the next contest!
