If we were in charge of the CHL's Dayton Gems for Jerry "The King" Lawler Night, which honors the wrestling legend and piledriver-of-Andy Kaufman on Feb. 25, 2011, we'd have created special helmets that looked like the party store crown The King has been rocking for three decades.
Alas, the Dayton Gems have opted for a different fashion choice for their game against the Evansville IceMen. From the Gems:
Gems will wear specially made Jerry Lawler themed jerseys for the game and the jerseys will be auctioned off after the game is over. Winning bidders will receive the jerseys that night. The jerseys will be autographed by both the player of the jersey and Lawler and the winning bidder will have their picture taken with both the player and Lawler as well. Jerry Lawler will also be wearing his own hockey jersey throughout the night and this too will be available during the jersey auction.
But what if winning an autographed hockey sweater that looks like a Calgary Flames jersey with a bad rash wasn't enough for you? Ah, then there's the Jerry Lawler VIP Package from the Gems for $75:
[It] includes two tickets to the game, two official game pucks signed by Jerry Lawler himself, an autographed Jerry Lawler Autobiography, free parking and a private meet and greet with Jerry Lawler prior to the Gems game against the IceMen that night.
OK, so the sweaters aren't exactly of a Don Cherry Military Appreciation Night quality (and that's sayin' something). But as an overall night at the rink, jerseys included, what say you?
Pass or Fail: Jerry "The King" Lawler Night at the Dayton Gems.
And if you're honoring a wrestler, is there a chance in hell we won't see a staged fight?
