The Anaheim Ducks' new third jersey is due to be unveiled on Nov. 26, before an afternoon game against the Chicago Blackhawks at Honda Center. But Puck Buddy Justin Mowbray believes he's found the first official image of the new sweater online.
The image is from FansEdge.com, an online retailer that sells gear for all four major pro sports leagues and the NCAA. It's listed as an Anaheim Ducks Alternate Premier NHL Jersey from Reebok, selling for $118.00. The jersey isn't listed on Shop NHL's page for Anaheim Ducks sweaters, but this would not be the first time NHL gear has leaked online from a third party retailer: It happened during the last two Stanley Cup Finals with championship gear.
We have several reasons to believe it's a legit leak:
1. Unless it was hacked, the FansEdge site doesn't appear to have any "concept" jerseys listed under its Alternate Premier NHL listing, which features other third jerseys from around the league. Plus, it doesn't resemble any of the fan-made jerseys that have been floating around for the Ducks, such as the ones in the comments of this Anaheim Calling blog. If it's a fake ... it's a damn good one.
2. Its price ($118.00) is in line with the price point for the Reebok NHL Premier jerseys on Shop NHL.
3. Finally, it matches the description that Icethetics, a plugged-in blog about hockey sweaters, had on its 2010 Jersey Watch post:
Icethetics has it on good authority that the jersey will be black with the standalone "D" logo front and center on the chest. No wordmarks! The sleeve striping will be similar to that of the black jersey but with orange cuffs.
Most intriguing is the return of the classic Mighty Ducks logo inside an oval-shaped shoulder patch, recolored in orange and gold of course. In addition, the jersey features orange piping around the shoulders as well as orange, white and gold piping up and down the sides a la the Flames' jerseys.
Again, nothing official yet, but all signs point to this being the Ducks' third jersey (and thanks to Justin in any case for the tip). We wrote that they sounded underwhelming ... and the Mighty Ducks nostalgists in us still somewhat feel that way. But it's a sharp looking sweater, if uninspired.
UDPATE: Chris from Icethetics writes us that the jersey is legit. So, with that: Pass or Fail?
