The Kontinental Hockey League has decided to raise interest in hockey among its female fan base with a partnership its male fan base will likely celebrate as well.
KHL's official magazine, Hot Ice, teamed up with the Russian version of Playboy and created a sweepstakes calling for all female hockey fans to submit their pictures wearing swimsuits and a short 150 character message about how much they love their KHL team.
All pictures will then be available on Hot Ice's and Playboy's websites for other fans to vote on. Pictures of the three finalists will appear in the March 2011 issue of Russian Playboy, with the eventual winner becoming Playmate of the Month for April 2011, with a photo shoot to be published in the magazine.
There will also be a panel of judges made up of current KHL players and Russian Playboy's editors, who will select the eventual winner. One can only imagine how long that line of players was for this job.
One of the conditions for the sweepstakes is that "girls whose photos are submitted for the participation in the sweepstakes should be morally and emotionally ready to have images of them appear" on the websites and in the magazine. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 31, 2010.
Because we're sure some of you are wondering, the
KHL has a Facebook gallery of images featuring female "fans" and on-ice
talent, some of which may be NSFW.
So, in summary, the things we hope the NHL steals from the KHL: Awesome brawls that prematurely end games; goalie masks with kittens; Jaromir Jagr(notes); and a working relationship with Playboy Magazine.
