No. 1 star, Keith Tkachuk, St. Louis Blues:
The team's elder statesman capped the Blues' improbable run to the playoffs by figuring in on the scoring of all three goals. After providing the primary assist on the game's first goal, Tkachuk scored on a power play 7:12 into the first period. When he added his 25th of the year with an even-strength goal at 8:07 of the second period it gave the hosts a two-goal edge and all the offense they would need for a 3-1 win over the playoff-bound Blue Jackets.
No. 2 star, Scott Niedermayer, Anaheim Ducks:
Anaheim's venerable captain put his team on his shoulders much of the final month of the season, and he was the key performer again Friday night when the Ducks clinched a playoff spot. Niedermayer scored a go-ahead goal early in the third period and assisted on another tie-breaker late in regulation that was just enough offense to put Anaheim into a playoff spot. Niedermayer skated a game-high 28:31, too.
No. 3 star, Sheldon Souray, Edmonton Oilers:
The veteran defenseman took advantage of a depleted Calgary lineup to score a goal and add two assists as the eliminated Oilers pounded their rivals. Souray was a plus-3 with three shots and one block during 21:30 of skating.
Honorable mention: Steve Ott scored two goals and added an assist for the losing Stars. … Jason Arnott set a new Nashville record with his 32nd goal of the season in a game during which the Predators suffered elimination. … Minnesota's power play went 3-for-3. … Dwayne Roloson finally took a seat after starting an Edmonton-record 36 straight games.
Dishonorable mention: Calgary suited up only 15 skaters – three under the maximum – because a rash of injuries and a salary-cap ceiling that prevented the Flames from adding more players. … The Oilers have missed the playoffs three straight years since advancing to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

yeah, he's only started like the past 30 games for the hottest team in the 2nd half of the season. that's called "consistency", not a "hot streak".
terrible defense? they've allowed one goal in each of their last two games.
as far as "depth", i'm confident that the note's continuous onslaught of exuberant youth with the just the right mix of veteran leadership is in full swing right now and has been (again) since the all-star break. again, not a streak - consistency.
i'm not even figuring kariya into the equation.

Chris Mason is overrated, the team is too young and inconsistent but are playing hot right now, but after losing two strait in the first round they're going to collapse.
Blues vs Detroit, Detroit in 5 games.
Blues vs SJ, SJ in 4-6 games.
Don't be retarded, just because you like the blues does not mean they can even touch SJ/DET in 7 games.

I'm sure SJ is shaking.

The Blues have lost MAJOR man-games from MAJOR players. Their captain AND their lead defenseman were TAKEN OUT before the season even started. Their best rook, TJ Oshie, missed 24 games. Their best center, Andy Macdonald, also missed significant time. They had a washed-up cancer as a goalie they had to get rid of.
They have had THE BEST F***ING RECORD IN ALL OF HOCKEY in 2009. Period. You can say what you want, but anyone that's actually been watching hockey knows the Blues are dangerous.
And seeing as how they won the season series against the Sharks...San Jose should be worried.
You're an idiot, and should simply quit talking about hockey when it's painfully obvious you're not even keeping up with the sport. Moron.

First to Curtis.......if you want to knock what the Blues did then go ahead......Doesnt take away the fact that they did it. You make the arguement that if they were consistant then they wouldnt have been fighting for that last spot. They had a rough first half and had to fight through a lot of adversity to make it to where they are now. Since New Years they got their act together and showed that CONSISTANCY.
As for chances......This Blues fan will just wait, watch and enjoy the games......Im not saying were gonna take anyone down but ITS WHY THEY PLAY THE GAMES!!!! If the playoffs were decided by regular season records then yeah theres a win for SJ but remember this......
AT THE START OF THE PLAYOFFS EVERY TEAM IS 0-0!!!!!!!!!
This should be fun..........whatever happens...........
