No. 1 star, Keith Tkachuk, St. Louis Blues:
The team's elder statesman capped the Blues' improbable run to the playoffs by figuring in on the scoring of all three goals. After providing the primary assist on the game's first goal, Tkachuk scored on a power play 7:12 into the first period. When he added his 25th of the year with an even-strength goal at 8:07 of the second period it gave the hosts a two-goal edge and all the offense they would need for a 3-1 win over the playoff-bound Blue Jackets.

No. 2 star, Scott Niedermayer, Anaheim Ducks:
Anaheim's venerable captain put his team on his shoulders much of the final month of the season, and he was the key performer again Friday night when the Ducks clinched a playoff spot. Niedermayer scored a go-ahead goal early in the third period and assisted on another tie-breaker late in regulation that was just enough offense to put Anaheim into a playoff spot. Niedermayer skated a game-high 28:31, too.

No. 3 star, Sheldon Souray, Edmonton Oilers:
The veteran defenseman took advantage of a depleted Calgary lineup to score a goal and add two assists as the eliminated Oilers pounded their rivals. Souray was a plus-3 with three shots and one block during 21:30 of skating.

Honorable mention: Steve Ott scored two goals and added an assist for the losing Stars. … Jason Arnott set a new Nashville record with his 32nd goal of the season in a game during which the Predators suffered elimination. … Minnesota's power play went 3-for-3. … Dwayne Roloson finally took a seat after starting an Edmonton-record 36 straight games.

Dishonorable mention: Calgary suited up only 15 skaters – three under the maximum – because a rash of injuries and a salary-cap ceiling that prevented the Flames from adding more players. … The Oilers have missed the playoffs three straight years since advancing to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

With the way the Blues have been playing I would say they are one of the scariest teams in the playoffs right now...

Unlikely, they don't have the depth to compete in 7 games against any real playoff seasoned team. They're goalie is hot but unless he stays the exact same way with terrible defense and shaky lines this team is going to squeak in but they wont get far.
(waits for St. Louis fans to beak me, as a side note hows Kariya doing? )

Them and Anaheim both. The Wings and Sharks are gonna be facing two hot teams in the first round, and they better be ready.

"they're goalie is hot but unless he stays the exact same way with terrible defense and shaky lines this team is going to squeak in but they wont get far."
yeah, he's only started like the past 30 games for the hottest team in the 2nd half of the season. that's called "consistency", not a "hot streak".
terrible defense? they've allowed one goal in each of their last two games.
as far as "depth", i'm confident that the note's continuous onslaught of exuberant youth with the just the right mix of veteran leadership is in full swing right now and has been (again) since the all-star break. again, not a streak - consistency.
i'm not even figuring kariya into the equation.

Ducks, Ducks, Ducks.... what a maddening game. We will see... Nice touch for the Ducks to have a moment of silence for Adenhart and his friends about the same time the Angels across the street were doing the same thing. Nice fireworks, Angels...

Curtis, you are obviously not a blues fan, nor do you watch any of the games. I bet you also thought edmonton or carolina didn't stand a chance of making it to the finals when they did. If you did watch the blues games, you would notice they have a surprisingly strong defense, considering the patchwork. And as for the lines, they are solid, again something you would know if you actually watched more than a handful of games when they played, i assume, your fav. the wings. The blues have been a model of consistency since the all-star break. call it a streak, call it dumb luck, whatever you call it, it's sure lasting a long time. can't compete for 7 games?? How about, they've been competing for nearly 3 months. 7 games will be a cakewalk. And ya, if Kariya comes back, that will make it even harder for the blues opponent to end up victorious. Detroit won't win a cup. They may get into the 2nd or 3rd round, maybe even finals if they are lucky, but they don't have goaltending this year. When the wings lose a season series to a team that doesn't even make the playoffs (nashville), the goaltending is weak and the team is doomed to fail. And if your team is sanjose, the blues are 2-2 vs them, and the 2 the blues lost, were 1 goal games. the blues can hang with sj easy. if any other team is your fav. it doesn't matter, the blues can beat them too, they have more than proven themselves post all-star break. you want to talk about a team with shaky defense? how about calgary? they gave up more goals this season than the blues did. even detroit gave up more goals. shaky defense... go smoke another one pal.
if its blues vs sj, blues in 6.
blues vs detroit, blues in 7,
blues vs vancouver (it could happen) blues in 6.
    GO BLUES!!

Hey guys with lots of text, save your time Blues are going to get ripped hard, but type more it makes a difference.
Chris Mason is overrated, the team is too young and inconsistent but are playing hot right now, but after losing two strait in the first round they're going to collapse.
Blues vs Detroit, Detroit in 5 games.
Blues vs SJ, SJ in 4-6 games.
Don't be retarded, just because you like the blues does not mean they can even touch SJ/DET in 7 games.

It seems if the Blues were to consistent they would be fighting for home games, not barely squeaking in the playoffs, but don't worry about the start of the season apparently it doesn't matter because they won the last few games.
    I'm sure SJ is shaking.

Curtis, you're a freaking idiot that has obviously not been actually WATCHING the f***ing hockey season this year.
The Blues have lost MAJOR man-games from MAJOR players. Their captain AND their lead defenseman were TAKEN OUT before the season even started. Their best rook, TJ Oshie, missed 24 games. Their best center, Andy Macdonald, also missed significant time. They had a washed-up cancer as a goalie they had to get rid of.
They have had THE BEST F***ING RECORD IN ALL OF HOCKEY in 2009. Period. You can say what you want, but anyone that's actually been watching hockey knows the Blues are dangerous.
And seeing as how they won the season series against the Sharks...San Jose should be worried.
You're an idiot, and should simply quit talking about hockey when it's painfully obvious you're not even keeping up with the sport. Moron.

the ducks are in the playoffs but they don't look near like the team they were in '07...still, they play better on the raod than they do at home which could mean good things...no one will admit it , but breaking up the '07 team and getting rid of mcdonald and penner might have really changed their chemistry...Bobby Ryan is a huge star of the future...i hope thay can add a supporting cast and i hope the east-coast driven NHL will take a fair look-see...i'm not a whiner, but it seems the refs really have it in for anaheim...the penalties they call are embarrasing...

First off congrats to the Blues .....Amazing to pull off what they did considering where they were (last in the West) 2 months ago.
First to Curtis.......if you want to knock what the Blues did then go ahead......Doesnt take away the fact that they did it. You make the arguement that if they were consistant then they wouldnt have been fighting for that last spot. They had a rough first half and had to fight through a lot of adversity to make it to where they are now. Since New Years they got their act together and showed that CONSISTANCY.
As for chances......This Blues fan will just wait, watch and enjoy the games......Im not saying were gonna take anyone down but ITS WHY THEY PLAY THE GAMES!!!! If the playoffs were decided by regular season records then yeah theres a win for SJ but remember this......
AT THE START OF THE PLAYOFFS EVERY TEAM IS 0-0!!!!!!!!!
    This should be fun..........whatever happens...........

I doubt they do any damage...even if they score 3-4 goals a night they're playing the red wings or sharks and mason's gaa is high 2's...those teams will probably chase him (4+ goals) at least 2 games in any series.

By the way, will this be the first time ever the 1 and 2 seeds lose in the first round??

With all the buzz circulating about Mac-T getting fired, is there any validity to Keenan possibly getting the axe if the Flames not only allow the division to slip from their grasp but also have an early exit thanks to the Hawks? (Assuming they play each other in the first round and lose of course)

Wouldn't it be a hoot if StL played SJ in the first round and reversed the result of that 2000 series? Don't think it'll happen, but I also didn't think SJ was going to beat the Blues that year. Congrats Blues and their fans...got a soft spot for em because of good 'ol JD. Wish the Rangers would have hired him instead of Slats.

Note that the Blues could finish in the 6th spot after the weekend. Since Mason has been in net, they've been consistent. And it's better to be average on the road than to suck on the road. That's why you have a good shot at the playoffs when you're decent on the road and great at home.

As much as I dislike the Ducks, you got to hand it to Scott Niedermayer. The guy is amazing. He's classy. He's got speed, skills. He sees the ice so well. And then you have Chris Pronger. And the latter is part of the reason I hate the Ducks.
