Two fights worth spotlighting from last night's action, for very different reasons.

First up is Jared Boll of the Columbus Blue Jackets taking on Krys Barch of the Dallas Stars, who really put on an ironman competition of a fight. The announcers gushed over Barch's "sneaky lefts," one of which knocked Boll on his behind, but this thing is nearly two minutes of bomb-throwing by two weary warriors.

That was a well-matched battle of hockey brawlers. Donald Brashear of the Washington Capitals against 18-year-old rookie defenseman Zach Bogosian of the Atlanta Thrashers? Not so much.

The fight above occurred in the final moments of an embarrassing 7-4 loss for the Capitals in Atlanta. Bogosian actually attempted to land a few blows before smartly tumbling down to the ice.

By far the best part of this fight: The hysterical reaction from the SportSouth announcers, sounding very much like the WWE's Jim Ross when a face wrestler is getting a beat-down from his hated rivals in the loading dock area of the arena. "Someone's gotta get in there ... you don't want Brashear ... oh my goodness!"

H/T to HockeyFights.com for all of it.

Looking directly down on the Barch/Boll fight live was great for about the first minute. After that, it began to make me squirm. And that is coming from someone whose favorite player to watch is Steve Ott.

I give the rookie credit for not being a coward and confronting Brashear at all. Brashear wanted to start something, and Bogosian didn't back away. He is a good kid, and is going to be a great player someday, hopefully for Atlanta.

First of all, Boll V. Barch. Wow. That was amazing. Almost two minutes, my hat is off to those two. New respect for each of them. I have a lot of respect for Brashear, but what was he doing? That bordered on goonery. Unless something happened outside that video, he had no reason to go after him.

The absolute best part of the Boll-Barch tilt was the Mike Tyson Punch Out music playing in the arena. Too bad the folks at other arenas (MSG) don't have the same sense of humour. That was awesome.

Brashear is getting old-maybe he thinks his legs won't carry him through a whole game and decided to take a rest and not get hurt in doing so. What a clown.

I don't think Bogosian turning around like, "WTF?", warranted the assault by Brashear. I think Brashear just about used up his sympathy points from when he got viciously whacked himself...you would think someone who was a victim of goonery wouldn't partake in it...

If you challenge someone in hockey, since it is a tough physical sport, expect to have your challenge called and accepted. Foolish rookie, even Ovechkin would have accepted at that point in the hockey game. Exelby got creamed by Ovechkin. Exelby please. LOL

Brashear kicked his asss, why would a rookie want to fight him is beyond me. Hats off to the young gun for not backing down. The caps got their butt beat, but the season is just begining and the cap's will get a groove going and will win the division Bet on it.

Context, guys. Brashear went after Bogosian because Bogosian had hit a Capitals player (David Steckel) into the board from behind with twenty seconds left in a 3 goal game. Anyone who' seen any more than two hockey games know that if you do that, you're going to have to answer.

that coconut head brashear is the most overrated goon in the history of the nhl. you talk about a useless piece of flesh he couldnt compete with the likes of oreilly or gillies just to name a few. he should be so lucky if anyone puts a dime in his glass when hes playing the piano at the holiday inn. good joke

David, Thank you I watched the whole game and that was exactaly what happened. And he did bring on himself, But I have to respect a rookie for playing that hard and letting Donald kick his butt. But I think next time if they have a 3 goal lead with under a minute left he will think twice about doing something that dumb. I know I spelled a couple words wrong, so I don't need a wanna be grammer teacher to tell me.

22, It was a check from behind because Steckel turned his back after Bogosian had already lined him up; wasn't even much of a check. Brashear was just looking for an excuse to goon it up.

Dig, good try a smart hockey player will turn his back to try and draw the penalty. Now granted the penalty was a mute point at that time. But the fact of the matter is he checked him from behind and got his asss whooped for it. So he is a goon, every team has one and it their job to stick up for the rest of the players. But from what I understand He is a goon, the same thing they call most of the flyers players. I guess on your team he's the enforcer not a goon. Would you say thats right? I knew you could. GO CAPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
