In the following clip, the hit on Chris Durno(notes) that sparks a fight between Blair Jones(notes) of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Nick Boynton(notes) of the Chicago Blackhawks is labeled as a "hip check," which is debatable. But there's no debate about who wins the ensuing scrap, thanks to Jones's left hand:
Well that was a spirited moment for the good people of Winnipeg. You'll notice as Boynton goes to the penalty box that he makes either the "cut it out, mister" or "I'm going to decapitate you, good sir" motion while exclaiming that, uh, Jones will, eventually meet his demise at Boynton's hands. Both players were given game misconducts per ESPN Chicago.
Earlier this week, the NHL released a video that explained new rules and emphasized existing ones, including regulations on taunting:
"Any identifiable player who uses obscene, profane or abusive language or gestures directed at any person runs the risk of an unsportsmanlike penalty and possible supplemental discipline."
Is it practice time for the Wheel of Discipline, too?
