Puck Daddy's Sean Leahy did a breakdown of the respective mayors of Pittsburgh and Detroit during our Stanley Cup finals previews, and found that Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick had a few ethical and legal issues dogging his administration. Never a good sign when terms like "impeachment" start getting tossed around.
Ben Schmitt and Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press reported that Detroit Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch personally invited the embattled Kilpatrick to today's Stanley Cup championship rally and parade. "I can't think of a reason why the mayor shouldn't be there," Ilitch said.
Kilpatrick appeared today for some brief statements. And here's what happened:
Never a good thing when both Chris Osgood and free beer fail to earn an ovation.
A user that posted a different video feed of the appearance on YouTube claims that Kilpatrick uses "a gang sign" at the end of this footage, but we're not exactly experts on that sort of thing.
The Freep quoted Kilpatrick's Spokesman James Canning's explanation for the booing: "The mayor has been elected to office twice by the residents of Detroit ... Based on the crowd's reaction, I guess if he was running for mayor of Joe Louis Arena, he wouldn't win."
Based on the reaction, Claude Lemieux could run for mayor of Joe Louis Arena and beat out Kwame Kilpatrick ...
Back to the Red Wings parade: Check out Shawn Windsor's play-by-play of the festivities from the comfort of his television set, and a short but rather touching reminder about the power of sports and family From the Mind of Mandy.

"Wecome to the home of Chris Osgood"
"Welcome to the home of Zetterberg"
"Welcome to the home of Babcock"
Whether he wrote it or not, is a fan or not, he went to the trouble of making an optional Red Wing parade speech.
He CAN'T be ALL bad!
