Puck Daddy - NHL

The votes are in. The Puck Daddy No-Foil Stanley Cup Replica contest has been decided. And your winners are ...

The results are from noon EST on Friday, the cut-off for voting. Read more about the finalists on the voting post. We at Puck Daddy mourn the Ham-ley Cup, an inspired bit of culinary genius.

First Place: Chris Askew's Wood Cup. Created by using 552 individual pieces and over 100 hours of work, the majority of you were unabashed fans of Chris's Wood. Chris wins a one-year subscription to The Hockey News that includes The Hockey News Yearbook. Prize courtesy of THN and THN.com.

Second Place: Mark Francis's Pucks Cup. Submitted by Ryan Stenn of the San Jose Sharks, this effort took 40 hours to complete. Mark wins a collection of books by sports author Ross Bernstein in a Puck Daddy prize pack: "Slap Shot Original," his book on Dave Hanson of the Hanson Bros.; "The Code," his classic examination of hockey pugilism; "America's Coach," a biography on Herb Brooks; and "Old Time Hockey," with scout and broadcaster Glen Sonmar.

Third Place: Robert L. Streeter's Cup Cake. Created by his brother the cop, it was a white layer cake covered with fondant and sprayed with food grade silver coloring. The pucks are hostess Ding Dongs. Killer. Robert (or his brother) win a prize in honor of the Chicago Blackhawks' last Stanley Cup championship: $48 cold hard cash and a Blackhawks T-shirt of our choosing.

Congratulations to the winners, who also all receive a copy of "Miracle" on Blu-Ray from Disney Blu-Ray. Thanks to The Hockey News and Ross Bernstein for their sponsorship of the contest as well.

Thanks to all who entered. We'll likely have one more gallery of honorable mentions and the entire collection in a Flickr gallery publishing sometime early next week.

Hey Wysh/Voters...lets recap the whole basis of this contest shall we?
"We want the most outlandish, creative and inventive "replicas" of the Stanley Cup you can conceive "
    -------------------------from: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/New-Contest-The-No-Foil-Stanley-Cup-Replica-Com?urn=nhl,166159
What in the h e double HOCKEY STICKS is so outlandish, creative and inventive about using wood? WOOD! (in bigger font)WOOOOOOOD!
Are you kidding me? People have been using wood to make stuff for CENTURIES...CENTURIES!!! And a wood replica of the the hallowed Lord Stanley's Cup is considered outlandish, creative and inventive?
All you wood cup voters are a disgrace. You should all be ashamed.

Hmmmm. Over 100 hours making a fake cup outta wood. Somebody doesn't have a girlfriend.
Next contest: Who can build the best replica of the Lady Byng Trophy using only feminine hygiene products whilst singing Helen Reddy's "I am Woman" with a lisp.

i might have liked the end results of the others more, but the sheer craftsmanship and effort that went into this one is what made it stand out.

The Hamley Cup should have won. Not only was it disgustingly original, but the chick was cute.

I voted for the wood cup but I think the Hamley Cup was without a doubt the most creative entry of the finalists. When I hear "make a replica Stanley Cup without using foil" my mind doesn't automatically think of meat as a medium. That takes a special (perhaps slightly twisted) thought process. Here's wishing Anna Adler a long and profitable career in pork sculpting.

Hamley losing makes this post Fail.
I agree with everyone else, the wood cup looks beautiful, but is far too serious for a contest like this.

If forget the significance of the third place prize. Was this contest conceived so long ago that Chicago was still in contention to end their 48-year drought? It could have been a $116 to mark the anniversary. If that was too much, it could have been $82 to commemorate the number of times the Cup has been awarded since the NHL took control of the trophy. Still too much? How about $41 to mark the number of times that Pittsburgh had a chance to win it?
Does anyone remember why Chicago was chosen? Simply because of their record drought?

No no no...the wood cup winning is essential! Not only is it the best faux cup but the dude's also from Arizona. A bailout and a prize in one! Win freakin win. Plus, he could probably get at least 500 bucks for the thing, unlike the edible cups.

While it may be the best Faux Cup, one wonders whether it was created for this contest. If so, I am in awe of that kind of commitment to the contest; if not, that is a pretty huge advantage to hold over those who didn't have a head start. Mighty cool though.

Thanks everyone for the nice words about the Hamley Cup! And Sledge: The Lady Bing kinda looks like a uterus so I think a feminine hygiene replica contest would be very apropos. Although I may leave that one to someone else as I am getting started on my Spam replica of Gary Bettman.
    Have a happy off-season!
