Chris Pronger discusses eye injury and visors, still a wiseass

During the Philadelphia Flyers' game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night, Chris Pronger(notes) met the media for the first time since taking an errant stick to the eye in a scary scene on Monday.

His vision was blurry; his wiseass Prongerian wit was not, as he needled reporters and poured on the sarcasm (video via Anthony J. SanFilippo of the Daily Times):

"Yeah, it could have been a lot worse. I don't know if I feel lucky getting hit," said Pronger of the injury, which happened in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, as Pronger caught Mikhail Grabovski's(notes) stick in the face on a follow-through and fell to the ice.

Chris Pronger discusses eye injury and visors, still a wiseassHe said his right eye was "still a little blurry because of the eye drops and things that I have to take to relieve some of the swelling and the pressure." He didn't give a timetable for his return to the ice with the Flyers.

The million dollar question for Pronger: Wearing a visor.

According to Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly this week, "Stephen Goldman, the team ophthalmologist, told Pronger he would not give him medical clearance to play again without wearing the visor."

So will Pronger come back wearing a visor, or wear one the rest of his career?

"I don't know. That's getting a little ahead of ourselves. I have to get back in the ice first," he said.

Grin. Head turn. Next question.

Has this incident changed his view on visors at all?

"You don't want to know my stance. That's for another day," said Pronger.

If he remains opposed to wearing a visor, he's not alone in the Flyers locker room.
