What Puck Daddy’s 2016 Summer Series seeks to do is capture those indefinable, quirky, oddities that occur every season. The Penguins introduced the NHL’s first and only live animal mascot, “Penguin Pete,” in February of 1968, their inaugural season. CCM reportedly made custom ice skates for Pete, an Ecuadorian-born Penguin on loan from the Pittsburgh Zoo, so he could learn to skate out ahead of the team.
The protracted summer romance between Jimmy Vesey and more than half a dozen teams around the league is over, and it’s not easy to figure out why the winner won. Having enough interest to actually get Vesey? Having a spot to give Vesey to make him think that’s the destination?
The Minnesota Wild asked, and the fans responded. Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” will be the new goal song for the Wild beginning with their Sept. 27 preseason game against the Colorado Avalanche. This summer, the Wild sent an email to season ticket holders asking for their feedback about the potential change from Joe Satriani’s “Crowd Chant” to the classic Prince track.
