Notes: The highest-scoring team in NFL history during the regular season, the Patriots managed just 14 points against the Giants in the Super Bowl. It was New England's lowest single-game point total since a 21-0 loss to the Miami Dolphins on December 10, 2006 - a span of 25 games. None of the four highest-scoring teams in NFL regular-season history have won the Super Bowl. ... The Patriots fell to 3-3 all-time in Super Bowls. ... WR Wes Welker was one of the few bright spots for the Patriots, finishing with 11 catches for 103 yards. He tied the Super Bowl record for catches held by Deion Branch (Super Bowl XXXIX), Jerry Rice (Super Bowl XXIII) and Dan Ross (Super Bowl XVI). ... Welker also finished with 27 receptions this postseason, tying the NFL record set by Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers in 2005. ... QB Tom Brady was sacked five times in the Super Bowl. He had not been sacked five times in a game since September 21, 2003 against the New York Jets. ... Brady's final pass of the game, a 6-yard TD to WR Randy Moss, was his 100th career Super Bowl completion, an all-time record. |
