Legendary football coach Buddy Ryan, who coined the "46 Defense", died Tuesday morning. He was 82. Ryan was on the defensive staff of the 1968 New York Jets team that won Super Bowl III. Thanks to his "46 Defense", the Chicago Bears blew out the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX. Ryan coached for 35 seasons. He was 55-55-1 as a head coach. His two sons, Rex and Rob, followed in his coaching footsteps. Rex, the former New York Jets head coach, is the Buffalo Bills' head coach, while Rob is an assistant coach for the Bills.

Previously, it was believed that he was voluntarily leaving his assistant position with the New England Patriots so that he could pursue a job in media again.
