NFL - Sports Rumors - Dallas Cowboys

Team: Dallas Cowboys

  • “RoyTerrell Owens(notes) and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo(notes) never really seemed very connected while the pair shared the Lone Star State, even though this was supposedly Romo's No. 1, go-to receiver. And you can be sure Owens took note of that fact.

Now Roy Williams is doing the same thing: taking note that more balls are headed in the direction of the supposed No. 2 receiver than to him, the supposed No. 1 receiver. "It's just not even close," said Williams to ESPNDallas.com. "It's not even funny. Not even close. . . . I'm the No. 1 receiver. But things are just going No. 2's way."

No. 2, otherwise known as Miles Austin(notes), has 563 receiving yards this season and six touchdowns. He's averaging 80.4 yards per game. Williams, meanwhile, has 249 yards receiving this season, good for an average of 41.5 a game and two touchdowns.

Williams lays the blame on Romo. "(Austin) gets the ball thrown correctly his way," Williams said. "I'm stretching and falling and doing everything. Everybody [else] who's been here's balls are there. Our footballs [from Romo to Williams] are everywhere right now."

Others are thinking it could be Williams' fault. It's safe to say there is a new No. 1 receiver in Dallas, though.

  • “BrianPhiladelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook(notes) took a knee to the head during the first quarter of Monday night's victory against the Washington Redskins that knocked him out and causes some memory loss. But Eagles head coach Andy Reid is apparently not convinced that Westbrook will be out of the lineup next Sunday when his Birds take on the archrival New York Giants.

Reid is supposedly "counting on" Westbrook being there. Well, he better get a new plan because doctors seem to be doubtful that he'll be ready to put his head back into a helmet before Sunday's faceoff, according to Philly.com.

"Right now, I'm counting on he'll be there, and I know he'll want to be there, so there is a fine line there because this guy is so competitive that he wants to be out there every minute," Reid said last night.

Meanwhile, former Eagles and Philadelphia Flyers doc Art Bartolozzi told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Westbrook will not only likely miss the Giants matchup but also the one the following week against the Dallas Cowboys.

"If he was unconscious, he is probably out at least a few weeks," Bartolozzi said. "The brain is like a computer. Amnesia means the hard drive has been shaken. If you lose data, it tells you something is wrong with the computer."

  • “WadeDallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips can apparently do whatever he wants for the rest of the season and team owner Jerry Jones won't fire him. Jones told the team's fans yesterday on his weekly radio broadcast that Phillips won't be canned this season "under no circumstances," according to the Dallas Morning News.

He wouldn't even been fired if the 'Boys had lost to the pitiful Kansas City Chiefs last weekend. "We've got a chance to get a lot of things done," Jones said. "And we've got a lot of football left to play, and we've got some good people that not only can play it but coach it."
Phillips has a contract that runs out at the end of this season and the team has an option to sign him for 2010, but it's believed that Jones will send Phillips packing at year's end if things don't miraculously turn around.

Jones is apparently finding inspiration from the New York Giants team of two years ago that had a rough start and ended up with an incredible Super Bowl victory against the previously undefeated New England Patriots. Let's just see the Cowboys do that.
