Young Eagles receiver changes agents, preps for extension

“DeSeanPhiladelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson(notes) hasn't even played two full seasons just yet but he's already considered one of the best at his position. He apparently changed agents in the middle of the season the other day and the new guy is one who Philadelphians don't have fond memories of: Drew Rosenhaus.

Rosenhaus gained a lot of dislike in Philly because he is the rep for controversial receiver Terrell Owens(notes), who pulled all sorts of stunts while playing in the City of Brotherly Love. Now Rosenhaus is taking the reins of Jackson's career and the team apparently would like to start talking about a long-term deal (even though nothing could be officially signed till March of next year), according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

The Eagles have locked up such young players as Shawn Andrews(notes) and Mike Patterson(notes) in the past but neither of them seemed to have the probable high-dollar amount needed to sign the way Jackson does. There is no doubt that the talks will be long and sometimes unpleasant.

    I actually kind of like Drew. He doesn't take any crap from the owners and he stands up for his players. That is his job. I don't blame him for not rolling over and playing dead for these billionaires.

    say what you want about drew, but look look how much money he gets his players and ask yourself who you would hire in his situation

    uh-oh. Drew has a way of destroying hot talent. Those of you who are talking about a lot of money surely disregard the fact that most of Drew's clients end up being drama queens and unable to actually get a Super bowl ring because all they care about is money and not the game itself.

    Jackson is not elite (yet) and should not be paid like it. In a year and a half (24 games) he averages about 3.6 rec a game for 60.1 yards. He is a big play threat but hardly elite. I hope the Eagles don't cave to his demands

    A dark cloud named Rosenhaus just wafted across the country and settled over Philadelphia. Get ready Eagle fans, stay tuned for the drama this lowlife creates, and to go from loving DeSean Jackson to hating him a year from now when Drew's asking price drives him out of town. Next question!
    Steven- If you're so bitter, come to town, buy a ticket to an Eagles / Phillies / Flyers / 76ers game and flex your computer muscles. Lots of hate towards Philly on the blogs but you rarely see opposing colors in our stadiums. That sounds like respect to me, or at least fear. Not a bad tradeoff for having to read a few posts from losers teeming with keyboard courage!

    If I'm the owner and GM I call up Al Davis this afternoon and see if he'll take DeSean Jackson, Jason Avant, Michael Vick & P.J. Hill for Javon Walker, Louis Murphy, Bruce Gradkowski & a mid-round pick in 2011. Just make it known that you wont even deal with Rosenhaus.

    Ahh so we have come to this the dreaded Eagles contract talks. This is where they see a player has potential to be great so they give him an extension early in his current contract. He then gets used up and outplays that extension and then when he says hey i think we need to have a talk about my contract, The Eagles give him the middle finger. Ah yes we have seen this all to many times, I dont particularly like Drew but he does get his clients contracts that take in to consideration what they have done and what they might do in the future. Smart move young buck bleed them dry.

    I've been a Charger fan since Johnny Unitas played, prior to the Dan Fouts era...I've seen and know many a great backs for them-Muncie, Means. etc.etc...LT has been one of the greatest to/date...When are the Charger's going to just let one of the greats just retire a Charger???San Diego you got to be w/your team win or lose...God bless you LT...What ever you decide to do-go w/your heart...

    #20- you're right. What they should do is go out and sign the dregs of society to ridiculous contracts and then point the finger at each other when they come up small in big games, like Dallas does. It worked once with Powder Nose Michael Irvin and they've been trying to replicate it ever since.
    #23- we'll fear the star when the star plays well in cold weather. Hasn't happened in the last 15 years. Let's see... got beat by Seattle because of a bad snap... went 13-3 and got trounced by the Giants in their first playoff game... came into Philly last year with your season on the line and laid an egg. Yeah, you have lots to brag about. This year's the year!

    The Eagles have 3 NFL championships in their proud history. You haters couldn't spell passion f I threw you the "pass..." Their stadium is sold out game after game, year after year.Just because you would get thrown down the steps in your gay star jersey, don't be afraid to come to philly.We welcome you with open arms. Just like your sister/cousin/wife welcomes us with open legs when we come to Dallas.
