Vinny Testaverde

The Arizona Cardinals may be on the verge of turning to veteran Vinny Testaverde as the primary backup to starter Kurt Warner now that Matt Leinart is out indefinitely with a fractured left collarbone.

Multiple NFL sources said that Testaverde, who turns 44 next month, is on their short list of potential quarterbacks.

This guy brings experience. The Cardinals cant waste time bringing in a green horn, they need someone who can fill in with veteran experience until Leinart is back. By the time some young QB gets a grasp on the game Leinart would be right around the corner and with the division on the line they cant take any chances on some young QB.

i can think of about 7 qb's that combined make his age and are of starter quality. Vinny T is the man and a great QB but sometimes you should just go out ahead and move on with people remembering you for your best years, and not as a novelty backup.

As much as I respect Vinny, I don't think the cards have the offensive line he would need to protect him. He was never even remotely considered a scrambler(even when 26) compared to now at 44.

It seems the Cardinals are in a state of denial. No way this team can compete for anything that matters this year, so why look to the past. They never should have been playing QB head games to begin with and possibly destroying our future by messing with Leinart's confidence or learning curve (no wonder the Steelers looked elsewhere when hiring) and now they want to sign a old man with no future. Why? Seems the team would be better off signing a young QB with some skills and giving him a shot and creating a quality backup for future seasons when maybe, just maybe, the team can compete at the highest level, for the biggest prive.

#7, WTF? "No way this team competes".....JEE-ZUS-CHRIST thay have been in EVERY game this year and lost 2 games by 3 points! And this was BEFORE Matt got hurt. They are playing great and Vinnie might be the answer in the short term. Cards will challenge for this division as every one BUT the Cards is down this year.....

I agree, bring in a younger player not an antique. Vinny simply cannot play anymore, his numbers speak for themself. From 2005-2007 he's turned the ball over 12 times and only scored twice with just 800 yards passing...he's done!

As long as they have enough sticks, funds for their 401'k plan for their old qb's and they keep winning, who cares? Although, to waste a draft pick for an oldie, first take a deep look of who else are available for free...

Big time Cards fan here, In the past you could knock their O Line, this year however this is not the case Russ Grimm is a hell of a coach, and I believe the Cards are in the tops of the NFL in Sacks Allowed, as well as rushing. The problem is that it only takes 1 hit, and as any 40 year old knows, your body doesn't respond as well, I dont care how good of shape your in, 44 is 44. I would not mind seeing them sign Vinny and another QB like Rattay. They were only carrying Kurt and Matt, the problem then however is a roster spot issue. Do you cut someone for this? Do you place Matt on IR, and call his season over? I think thats what they are waiting on. Too bad for Matt, he was progressing, and now the 3-2 start, is all in jeopardy if Warner goes down.

No need to get bent out of shape. They are simply looking for a backup to Warner (who was the backup to start with). Luckly, Warner is back in top form and could lead the team to the playoffs. When most teams lose their starting qb, they rarely recover and are pretty much done for the season. Be thankful that Kurt is playing well and IF you lose him too, then why not have a vet? Odds are if the Cards lose Warner too...then they are done anyhow.

Vinny T loves the game and can still bring it even as a back-up. With the depletion the cards have at the position of quarterback you should be happy such a stellar QB would consider coming to your organization. Warner can win you games when its not too far out of reach but he isn't going to give you four quarters and a win.

I respect Mr.Testaverde he is still a good QB even at his age. However I just think picking him up would be a mistake. While I have nothing but respect for the man and agree the cards want the experience, I just dont see how Testaverde would he be more durable then Warner? I think there is a lot of younger talent floating around looking for a chance to prove they can be a starter and some of them even have played at starter before. I agree they want someone that has been in the game before not a noobie, but they have to consider durability.

make a trade for Andrew Walter....he's been in the league a few years and has last season under his belt, has a strong arm, knows what it's like to lay on your back too often (and managed to survive without major injury). We will give you Ronald Curry and Andrew Walter for Larry Fitzgerald straight up!

i like Vinny, but to say "someone who isn't prone to mistakes and bad plays", I think Vinny is basically dead even for his career as far as TDs vs INTs. So he has had his share of mistakes. If the Cards add him they best be hopin' Warner doesn't go down (and he has had his share of injuries) or develop a case of fumbleitis...

I absolutely love Vinny Testaverde and hope to see him extend his touchdown record by playing for the Cards. He played with the Pats LAST SEASON and was in our training camp this year. The man is a rock, and he's in great shape. Go Vinny!
