According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick went on a spending spree in the months leading up to being jailed for dog fighting.

The day he went to jail, Michael Vick bought a $99,000 Mercedes. He cashed four checks that totaled $24,900. He gave $28,000 to the mother of his oldest child. He paid a public relations firm $23,000 and gave a friend $16,000. Altogether on Nov. 19, 2007, Vick spent $201,840. But for the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback, the day was most remarkable for how it ended: behind bars, beginning what would be a nearly two-year sentence in a notorious dogfighting case.

The day's spending, in fact, was but a small part of the $18.2 million that flew out of Vick's hands from 2006 to 2008, according to documents filed recently in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Norfolk, Va. Nearing the end of his time in federal prison, Vick, 28, is seeking the court's protection from his creditors.

They are particularly interested in his increased spending in the three months before he reported for jail.

The documents provide a detailed look at the privileged lifestyle of an athlete who rarely offered more than a glimpse of himself off the playing field. They show how Vick, who grew up poor in Newport News, Va., bought houses and cars, farms and horses, boats and jewelry, all at the height of a spectacular career that shattered after he was identified as the key figure in an illegal dogfighting ring.

I'm suprised he didn't forsee that he'd need some of that and open a swiss or "off shore account as although it will be nice to be driven away from jail in that 100k mercedes he still needs some $$$$ I heard something about and upstart football league taking him - can anyone expand on that? I can only see 3 teams taking the PR hit that's going to come from him RAIDERS, they'll take anyone - Dallas & Baltimore but no one paying him more than a 2 year deal worth $5mil which is bargin cheap for a QB -- REMEMBER Jamal Lewis spent 8 months in jail and it took him 1.5years to get back on track and be servicable -- Vick if he plays again will take much longer. Yes I say he plays again -- L. Little was convicted of DUI and killed someone and still played after what -- a 4 game suspension -- Ray Lewis, the afore mentioned J. Lewis, "Pacman" and many others have done worse. alot worse.

And yet, he hasn't spent much since then...I wonder if someone will pick him up from the pokey in his (old) new car? That's nice to see he gave one of his baby momma some money. He's such a nice guy.
When he gets out, he can start his life as another ex-NFL, ex-con, just like his brother. Maybe he will get mauled by some pitbulls in a stroke of irony.

He seems really sorry. I hope his career works out just like Todd Marinovich's. What I really hope is that some nut from peta waits for him around a corner with a baseball bat. Oh, wait. He found God. That makes it all better.

Should be no problem: He's making $12.60 a week at his new home. Should take about 7,000,000 million years to re-coup! What a buffoon!

Financing a illegal dog fighting and gambling ring and NOT being charged with conspiracy and tax ivasion is what always surprised me in this case. The fact that he filed bancruptcy after blowing millions in 30 days sounds like fraud to me , that's another federal offense.Goodell needs to ban him for life.

We should not focus on things we have no control of (skin color) and focus on decisions people make. Black, white, yellow, and red, people have made good and bad decisions in their lives.
