True to his word, Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher is in Chicago for a mandatory minicamp that gets started on Friday according to Profootballtalk.com.

The development comes after linebacker Lance Briggs declared that Urlacher would skip the three-day session due to Urlacher's unhappiness with his contract. Though the prospect of a daily fine in the amount of $8,165 likely wasn't enough to get Urlacher to relent, the possibility that he would have owed the team as much as $5.7 million in previously paid signing bonus money might have gotten it done.

Though the ability of the Bears to recover that much money from Urlacher is debatable since under the CBA's proration system the unearned portion of the signing bonus is at most $3.7 million, Urlacher has likely gotten enough exposure to the court system through his ugly child custody battle to realize that skipping out on a three-day practice session isn't worth the potential price tag, whether the number is $3.7 million, $5.7 million, or something in between.

WOW! Just last year people were killing Lance Briggs for holding out! Now Urlacher should get paid. Double standards never cease to amaze me.

honestly the bears better hurry up and sign him now so they can keep him through 2012. although they can also trade him for a OLinemen.

Nobody in the NFL is true to their word anymore. The guy signed a long term contract, he needs to honor his commitment. If he played lousy, could the bears try and pay him less? No, they'd have to honor the contract, or let him play elsewhere. Chicago = America's Anus

i don't understand all the holdouts anymore, michael jordan was obviosly underpaid for years and he honored his contract because he said he signed it. if anyone should of been yelling it was michael because nobody in chicago was or will be as great as he was.

It's not about how much money he makes or wants or needs...it's about wanting to be the highest paid player on the team since he is the most important...it's tough to argue that he's not worth more money than most of the bums with Chicago

Send him to the Packers a team that is about winning. The Bears are shorting their fans by keeping some average offensive fire power, QB's and running backs, such a shame. GO PACKERS YEAHHHHH BABY

If the bears had any sense they would just re-do his contract. He is far and away their best player and the most recognizable player with their organization, it would be foolish to let him get away.

The Bears need to save the money so that they can pay Tommy Harris. Let Urlacher play out his contract, by the time it expires he will be worn out anyway. Find a middle linebacker that can stop the run.

the organization should take a hard stand, wait until he have shown that there is no physical limiting condition that will prevent him from being the player he was before injury. And then pay him.
