Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson is under contract till the end o 2012 but he must figure it's never too early to start positioning himself for some big bucks. He apparently is saying he wants the team to make him at the very least the highest-paid running back in the league, according to the Tennessean.
Johnson rushed for 2,006 yards last season and had a base salary of $385,000. This coming season, he's supposed to make $560,000. So it would take a doozy of a raise to get him up to the top ranks. The St. Louis Rams' Steven Jackson is currently the highest paid running back; he signed a five-year deal in 2008 for $48.5 million.
"Hopefully they'll want to give me a new deal. I think I deserve to be the highest paid running back in the league, or even the highest paid offensive player besides the quarterback," Johnson told the paper. "But it's not like I am not going out in the media saying, ‘Pay me, I want a new deal now.' I am just saying, if they were to pay me, I want that."
