Houston Texans wide receiver Harry Williams will remain in Dallas overnight and undergo surgery to repair a fracture in his vertebrae. Williams suffered the injury and was initially paralyzed just three minutes into the game Friday night against the Dallas Cowboys at Texas Stadium. Williams was going for a tackle on a kickoff return by the Cowboys when he collided with teammate Nick Ferguson, who was also going for the tackle. While Ferguson walked away from the collision, Williams remained motionless.

Texans team physician Walter Lowe said Williams started regaining movement in his extremities when he was immobilized and placed in the ambulance before being rushed to Presbyterian Hospital.

"He has a small fracture that's going to require fusion surgery to stabilize the spine," Lowe said. "The surgery will fuse together the second and fourth vertebrae."

Cowboys surgeon Andrew Dossett will perform the surgery this weekend. Lowe said that Williams will be able to walk, but that it is too early to speculate on the future of his NFL career.

That poor guy! When he went down I had visions of Kevin Everett all over again...it is good to see though that they are doing this surgery right away...with luck and some blessings from the one above hopefully he will return. No matter what I never like to see anyone hurt even if they are playing the Boys...
Philly fans you had a little lesson in class last night I hope you paid attention...if not look for the replay on the NFL Network...only heathens clap when a player gets injured...bunch of jerks!

WOW!!!! He is lucky from the sound of it just another fraction of an inch and he could be paralized for good. I was praying for him when I was watching the game just hoping everything will be OK.

I think the NFL needs to figure out someway to make kickoffs safer. What will it take for that to happen, some one to die?? That's two spine injuries in less than a year. Having 22 guys crash in to each other sounds like fun, but we need to do something soon, before things get even worse.......

He was able to feel his extremities again shortly after. That's a good sign. I hope that he comes back at full strength. I remember when something like that happened to Tommy Maddox for the Steelers. It wasn't as serious but he still was never the player he was before. That kind of thing puts the fear of God right into you.

glad he's gonna be ok but he is covered by the workers' compensation law. yes... even nfl teams purchase WC policies to cover their players if they are seriously injured... i'm not talking knee surgeries cuz they have huge deductibles usually a stop loss of about $1,000,000 per loss so team is responsible for the 1st $1,000,000 of the claim then an insurance carrier pays for the rest which in this case will be an extreme amount of money... they will settle with him for whatever his career potential income was and of course that will involve attorneys for both parties because that amount of money is arbitrary and based on performance that he will never get to prove... average player plays for 5 years so probably 5 years at the average for nfl wr's and that will be several million dollars plus some pain and suffering money so dont worry atleast he and his family are provided for.....
