Steve McNair announces his retirement

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair announced his retirement today after 13 seasons in the NFL.

"I played the game with a lot of passion," McNair said during an afternoon news conference at team headquarters in Owings Mills. "I played the game with a lot of heart."

McNair told teammates of his decision during an emotional meeting this morning before the start of coach John Harbaugh's first minicamp. The timing of the announcement is surprising because the 35-year-old McNair was hoping to keep his 13-year NFL career going after a turnover-marred, injury-filled 2007. He has been a regular at the team's Owings Mills training facility the past couple of months.

great qb in his prime.but we are starting to see qb that play like mcnair and mcnab 2 of the best when they were younger.it seems like they are taking years off of their carears.to many hits are taking a toll on there bodys.they seem to drop of a great deal after 5-6 years in the leauge.to many hits,i know they are more fun to watch than a dropback passer but i would love to have seem him play longer and not suffer like he has the past 3-4 yrs.

    Wow,
I would have loved for him to leave on a good note. I guess he did not want to continue if he could not play at a high level. Baltimore is now in a challenging situation with no veteran QB's on their roster. We have to draft a QB in the first round and will need to pick up a good free agent.

Dilfer a free agent, did you see him play for the NINERS? he's a waste of daddy juice if you ask me. He killed our offense and complained about it the whole time. McNairs body isnt healing the same as when it used to, besides he wants to drink and drive in peace.GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dee L. clearly has not seen a football game in the past 3 years (McNair threw the longest TD pass in Ravens history in 2006, 90 yards, 45 of it in the air). I will miss McNair. He was one of the most exciting players I have ever watched. On the issue of HOF he will likely not make it, but he should. McNair did more with less help than any other QB in history. McNair led teams to AFC championship games that should not have even made it to the playoffs. For the majority of his career his offensive lines were literally offensive(no protection whatsoever, QB getting hit on 75% of his passes)and he had no great receivers, yet he was able to pass for for over 30,000 yds. With the exception of Brady, no QB playing now could have done as well with the teams he played with. (P. Manning could not survive a game under the same circumstances).

Good ridance now the Ravens can be Hall of Fame player stealers. We got Deion Sanders and now Steve McNair who else will come to Baltimore just so they can can go in as a Raven.

I will miss seeing Steve Mcnair play football. I think that he has been a credit to the sport. He was never a primadonna when he was in his prime. He never heldout or made a nuisance and distraction of himself for the organizations that employed him during his 13 seasons. I sure hope that he files an injury grievance after he officially retires,so that he does'nt miss out on funds that he may be eligible to receive, due to the statute of limitations.
