Steelers' Polamalu doesn't need surgery

“TroyThe Pittsburgh Steelers are bumming. It's looking like one of the team's top defensive players, strong safety Troy Polamalu(notes), could miss the first half of the season but the good news is that he doesn't appear to need surgery on his hurt left knee, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said after the team's 13-10 overtime win over the Tennessee Titans last Thursday that Polamalu could be gone for as little as three weeks with the injury.
Polamalu apparently wanted to go back into the game after he got hurt in the second quarter. And why not? He already had an interception and six tackles. But the medical staff would not let him.

Wonder how many docs it took to wrestle Polamalu down

I hope Troy realizes the important part of the season doesn't start until December. Don't come back until you're really ready...and fully healed. Being highly motivated is great, but temper that enthusiasm with a little bit of prudence. The schedule appears to support the time taken for healing. GET WELL!

Hines Ward claimed for him football was a game for Palamalu it was like a religion. I think Troy will focus on healing and will be ready in 4 weeks or so.

polamalu is a class act but one man does not make a defense. his loss will be felt but it is not over for that defense by any stretch.

Troy is one of my favorite players, but his reckless style often concerns me. It's almost like a crazy talent show where a participant blows himself to pieces with dynamite as an act. Great trick, but he can only do it once. Same for Troy. He can only play at that body-sacrificing intensity for so long until he gets hurt and then he's either out, or he plays hurt as he's done many times at a much lower performance level. I don't think that he needs to play every play as if the season depends on it. Granted, he was trying to recover a blocked field goal, but I think that he needs to save some for down the stretch.

Everyone down talking Troy is just jealous their team doesn't have him. I'm a huge Steeler fan winning or losing and he will make a full recovery and everyone's going to feel it. Its just a shame that some of the down talkers wouldn't be if he was on their team....be a football fan and notice a great player with heart when you see one, theirs a reason the Steelers don't have cheerleaders you know...BECAUSE IT'S ALL ABOUT THE GAME. Otherwise quit watching the game and go watch soccer or something.
