“MichaelFormer wide receiver holdout Michael Crabtree(notes) may be getting the start for the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday but Josh Morgan(notes) will still likely be getting the majority of the playing time when the Niners takes on the Houston Texans, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Folks were feeling bad that Morgan, who has shown up this season, would be losing his playing time to former holdout Crabtree. Morgan will apparently be put in when three receivers are needed and sometimes as a single receiver, which San Francisco does a fair amount due to its strong running game.

No matter how much time Morgan gets out on the field, fans of the 49ers will likely be happy to finally have first-round draft pick Crabtree out on the field attempting to catch balls rather than sitting around in his silly holdout that went nowhere. Hard to feel bad for a guy who is reportedly making $32 million over the next six years.

Better focus on defense and not Crabtree.

I do feel bad for Morgan, especially that he stuck around during the bye week to teach Crabtree his position. That being said, I hope Crabtree plays more and gets fed the ball because he's on my Fantasy team. I have no emotional investment in the Niners for any other reason, but from a human standpoint that's gotta sting to train your replacement.

Morgan will be return to being a full time starter when Bruce retires or moves on next season. I still disagree with making a 70+ day holdout a starter. The move is quite surprising coming from a coach like Singletary.

    Hey Surf,
Well said. Sing's focus through the holdout was with the players he had on the field. Now that Crabtree is signed, it makes no sense for the Niners to sit him out longer if he is indeed ready to play.

what strong running game? our o-line couldnt open up a can of tuna let alone open holes for gore! and they couldnt block a stack of leggos let alone block for shaun hill! i love my team....i love sing...but i hate our o-line. i sure hope they show up 2 play, this could definately be a win for us....if they do their job.

Josh Morgan had 5 games to show something. Now it's time to see if someone else could spark this passing game.

Niners are going to try to get their money's worth with Crabtree by playing him on offense and defense.

Crabtree or maorgan shouldnt be losing anytime. Them and BIG V our the playmakers in the passing game. Its time to let ol isaac sit some not the young guys. Bruce is a great vet that can teach them alot but hes well past his prime and when you have to very capable WR's you play them. Lets get them involved and let bruce sit some snaps.

we got our hands full once again this week. their offense is mighty potent. hopefully with gore back, we can move the ball downfield and keep houston's defense on the field most of the game. houston has a mighty potent offense. the 49ers also need to double team andre johnson most of the game because clements isnt going to be able to shut him out alone.

My thing is you have all these people saying he held out for 70+ days why should he play why should he start. Well you sign him and you pay him so make it worthwhile and play him and if hes showing the skill level to start then start him regardless of how long he held out for so kept negotiating to get him to this point so use him.

It's not a surprise because they can script the first few plays, plays that will be the responsibility of Crabtree to learn. When they run out of plays he knows, he'll be out and Morgan will be in. He's starting because of that and probably because he's impressed in practice.

If your starting Crabtree this week, don't be dissapointed with his stats. I highly doubt he's going to do much this week even against a suspect defense, but as the season progresses I think he could be a solid WR3 or a low-end 2.

Its not like Crabtree is going to change this team all of the sudden. WRs hardly make an impact in their first few seasons, and even if they do, its usually not enough to advance their teams chances. Crabtree is on a run first team with the smash mouth, grind it out approach. Thinking he is going to be a big play maker is idiocy. For one he is not only behind with the play book but also with his conditioning. He hasn't taken an NFL snap yet and just because he was a big time collegiate receiver doesn't necessarily mean it will translate into the NFL. Defenders are bigger and faster in this league. Take a look at Reggie Bush, he was one of the most dominant players to ever step onto the college gridiron, yet that hasn't translated into the NFL. Sure he is a dynamic player with speed and agility, but every team possess a guy like that. I'd look for Crabtree to make an impact on special teams more-so than on offense. The Niners released their kick and punt returner (Allen Rossum) to make room for Crabtree. So it kind of sets up the table for Crabtree to be the return man. Nothing is given in this league, you have to earn it. I'd look for him to catch under 20 balls this year. Holding out only hurts your chances of succeeding. And I don't personally think they should sit Morgan or Bruce. Morgan is their down field threat and Bruce is their hands guy. They already have a great receiver out on the field in Vernon Davis. I just don't think their is much playing time for Crabtree and if I were the Niners, I wouldn't give it to him. Like I said, everything in this game is earned, not given.

sactown piston fan you are a moron. Josh Morgan has played exceptionally well in his role this year, especially for a team with a quarterback who isn't going to "air it out." Morgan is on pace for over 750 yards, and after a 4 catch (for 78 yards) performance last game, you sound idiotic to say that Josh Morgan hasn't been playing well. Take time to analyze his game; other than one missed block on a WR screen/short route against Atlanta, his skills are incredible for a 2nd year player.

None of these issues are going to matter on Sunday, when the Texans lay the smackdown on ya. Don't make the mistake of thinking we only have a strong offense. Take a look at the defense in the last 3 games. The defense has found their identity. This is a division with the Colts, Titans, ann Jags. Smashmouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
