“AhmanThe word on the street is that running back Ahman Green(notes) may be coming back to the Green Bay Packers, the team he last played for in 2006, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

His agent is saying there is no deal in place, but some of Green's old pals that are still on the team, he supposedly told them that a deal was basically done and the team had sent him a playbook that he was studying in preparation for a return to practice.

He's spent the last few years with the Houston Texans, which released him back in February. He apparently beat out Dominic Rhodes(notes) for the honor of coming back to Packers, who need him because the team released rookie running back Tyrell Sutton(notes) in the preseason and has seen Deshawn Wynn(notes) and Brandon Jackson(notes) both go down with injuries.

Letting Sutton go was a mistake made by McC and TT. Also not keeping the DB Smith. Both those decisions have hurt the Pack already.

Ahman did absoulty nothing in Houston except get paid to go to rehab and the gym. An absolute ZERO as a player. The Packers would be better off taking their money and giving it to another charity not named Green.

well he would probably just be a 3rd down back and he was a pretty good receiver for a running back when he played for the pack... i don't mind it if they sign him it wouldn't hurt to see if he has some gas in the tank to make some plays here and there..

i think this guy is passed his prime. he is not better then Ryan Grant. Brandon Jackson just got back from being injured. Pakcers still have a multitude of fullbacks they can use too. Kuhn is having a great year, give him a few more carries. Ahman fumbles way too much, and lets face it, if you can't cut it on the Texans, how do you expect to cut it for Green Bay

I think this is great. He'll be a backup, so we won't have to worry about his fumbling problems or the fact that he's past his prime that much. Besides, Wynn hasn't done anything this year so far, so I think Green can be productive if he doesn't have to carry the load himself. I'm glad to have one of the Packer greats back on the team, now I just wonder what number he'll wear. Maybe he'll get his 30 back from Kuhn.

As a die-hard Packer fan, I will take anyone on the team that can help this team win and contribute immediately. I know Ahman did some awfully nice things when he was in his prime. I do not like the scrap heap mode that TT believes in--however my guess is we will be getting someone like Ahman or Dominic Rhodes for almost nothing (league veteran minimum) so why not take a flyer on someone like that. Besides if Ahman looks anything close to what he was like before (minus the fumbles) I will take it and if he looks like crap we can dump him in a week or two. I would have personally like to have seen them do something to address the OL but any help is welcomed.

Statistically he still about the same as when he was in GB. Right now the run game in GB sucks and they need to do something. Green is a punishing runner and may help to open up the run game. Much like Bettis did at the end of his career.

Green is still a beast, Plus Grant can't take it to the next level anymore-don't know why- I really wish we had Sutton, but Green will punish some CBs, and LBs. Good move overall..

kencherek, I like the enthusiasm and I wish this would work out for the Packers, but Green is past his time. This is a desparate action to just have a body there because of the injury to Jackson. We still need to improve the O-Line a great deal if we want to even think about playoffs.

Well if nothing else, I will stand and cheer when he breaks the all-time packer rushing record... Jackson and Wynn have had thier shots--as well as Grant--something was actually done... Rare for TT and MM The glory days will not be the same as when he was in his prime, but he is a beast and runs downhill... Thats more than you can say for the other 3 employed on the team..

He's a bum. Take it from a Houston fan. 2 seasons of pay, with absolutely no return. He was the biggest waist of money at that position in Texans short history.

ahman green is clearly better than ryan grant and all the other green bay running backs.
give him a decent line then he is a 1000 yards per season guy.
sign warrick dunn, dom rhodes, and shaun alexander and release all the running backs we have.
green bay running game would be insanely good.

atleast arron rogers will get some pass protection with green back thier. and another good handed reciver this will open up the screen game. they could line up in a wishbone and run the screen either way. ultimatly grant need to quit playing in slow motion. the packs run blockin aint the problem it there pass protection that sucks. o yea one more thing ditch that stupid zone blocking your line isnt athletic enough for that and put kamps hand back in the dirt if u want to get some sacks way to butcher that playbook. Where is BJ Raji havent seen much of him either. wake up another thing to the people owned team do something and get rid of ted thompson

You got a great QB for the future and you are going to get him killed. Get rid of these bums and move on. Enough of the we are going to work on it and get it right crap, cut your losses, and fix it. Rogers is going to get hurt bad and never be the same, and its going to be a damn shame, move on.

Good Luck with A Green. The first touch of the preseason last year, he ended up getting hurt again after being out most of 06. Green was just a big waste of money. The only good thing that came out of the Green fiasco was the emergence of Steve Slaton. Green sucks and is washed up!
