NFL - Sports Rumors

“BenPittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin apparently had some interest in going after Michael Vick(notes) when he was still a free agent to back up Ben Roethlisberger(notes). But Tomlin decided not to go after Vick when the NFL said Vick could play again because he supposedly didn't want to put any undue pressure on his already troubled quarterback, according to ProFootballTalk.

Roethlisberger currently has a civil suit against him by a woman who claims that he raped her in a Lake Tahoe hotel/casino. "Given some of the things that my quarterback was going through, I didn't think it was the appropriate time to add another quarterback to the mix," Tomlin apparently said. "I didn't want to do anything that was less than supportive to Ben."

How ‘bout that? Bringing in Vick would have hurt Big Ben's feelings. He's such a sensitive guy.

Mark Miller should start every article he writes with, "I hate the Steelers!" That would help put his comments into the proper perspective. What an A$$!

Yeah... because the Rooney's are all about controversial players - they never would have let a Vick deal go through. Signing Vick to the Steelers would only make sense if he didn't just come out of prison, and Roethlisberger actually fought women for sport - on tape, and they didn't just win a super bowl... Otherwise, this is a non-story.

I love how unproven b.s. gets passed along as "news." This article is crap for a couple of reasons. First of all, a lot of people figured the whole rape story was probably bogus given the timing of it (the woman waits a whole year to sue, and just before training camps open). Second, why would the Steelers want Vick anyway. It would go against their image (they don't even have cheerleaders for God's sake) and they already have a younger, better version of Vick in Dixon. And Dixon can actually pass the football. So ridiculous.

And oh I forgot. They already have a proven big game quarterback who's won Super Bowls. Yeah the Steelers would really love to rock that boat.

This is one of the more stupid commentaries I've seen on here!! WHY would the Steelers need Vick?? We've got Ben,super bowl winner X2. Just between you,me and the fence post,I'd rather have a "sensitive guy" than one who is as Violent as Vick. My feelings about the rape...I don't think that it was rape,I think the chick is just pi$$ed because she didn't get pregnant,no baby,no meal ticket!! Go STEELERS!!!

Who ever wrote this article obviously knows nothing about football or the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are not the Cowboys, Raiders, Eagles, or Bengals. They do not hire ex- felons. They have little or no toleration with those who break and flaunt the law. Vick was never going to play for the Steelers, the Rooney's would not have allowed it. It just isn't their style. They dump malcontents and NFL criminals...why are Plaxico and Porter no longer with the Steelers? Anyone remember what happened to Cedric Wilson. One domestic violence complaint and he was warned. The second and he was gone! Besides with Batch and Dixon the Steelers had no need of Vick. These nitwit national sports writers just don't get it.

Clean up the sport-Any drug use, arrests, convictions, steroids, guns, etc.. etc... etc..--You are out of the league period-without pay, do not pass go, no second, third , fourth chances!! See how fast the sport would turn for the better--Same goes for baseball, basketball, or any other professional sport!!

So Tomlin's more worried about how he might hurt his quarterback's feelings than actually do something for bettering the team? That makes no sense. If I was the head coach, I would say "This would be a good backup plan for the team, get over it Ben".

new rules unfair With the NFL passing new rules for the safety of the players why is there still one player that can get away with ;the head slap, grabing the face mask, grabing the chin strapand using the helmet as a battering ram. That one player is the ball carrier. If safety is the issue should not all players be protected by the same rules.

I saw the interview that Tomlin gave. I took it as, " Vick has way too much baggage to be on any team of mine".
It cracks me up what these writers will put as headlines to lure people to read their crap.

is this supposed to mean something? are we steelers fans supposed to be angry at mike tomlin cuz he didn't sign vick?? come off it. First of all, I think Vick deserves his second chance, and I'm glad that someone is giving it to him. I detest what he did, but he served his time so lets move on. As far as Ben and Lake Tahoe is concerned, did he or didn't he?? I don't know, but I don't think he did. Either way Tomlin's right, Ben is our quarterback. Ben has two rings. He doesn't need to be lookin over his shoulder at Mike Vick. Because we all know if the black and gold go and sign Vick, the media starts sayin the Roethlisberger thing must be bigger than we think, and Pittsburgh is preparing for not havin Ben during the season. So good job Tomlin. You did it right. And we are well on our way to a repeat. Cuz that defense is ridiculous.
