NFL - Sports Rumors

Here's a scary thought for opponents of the Pittsburgh Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger, who set a Steelers' record with 32 TD passes last season and finished second to only Tom Brady in the NFL in quarterback rating, could be even better this season.

Roethlisberger, entering his fifth season, recently told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he expects to have a better grasp of the Steelers' offense because it will be his second season in offensive coordinator Bruce Arians's system.

"Because it was a new offense [last season], it's kind of hard to be too vocal as a leader when you're not sure what's going on all the time on offense," Roethlisberger said. "This year I think I'll be able to develop even more, and hopefully just be able to continue to grow into my leadership role."

For all you jealous haters. Here's one thing for you. Big Ben is a Superbowl Champion. No matter what you say...no matter how green with jealousy you are....no matter how stupid you are. One thing is for sure and will never change. Big Ben is the youngest QB to ever win a Superbowl. He's got a ring on that finger, there's a Vince Lombardi trophy in that glass case in Pittsburgh.. Hate all you want. THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS AND BIG BEN AREN'T DONE YET. Keep hating and we'll keep winning.....One of the best Pro sport franchises in America and that is not going to change. The Black and Gold Rock." 5-time Superbowl Champions." I love how that sounds. I'm out.

Hey #11 james - he does have a ring, but HE didn't win the game. He seemed to try his damnedest to give it away. If I remember correctly, he had the worst QB rating ever in a SB.. That said - I have nothing agaist the guy and I wish him well this year. The div is getting more competitive each season..

james - Roethlisberger finished SB XL having completed just 9 of 21 passes for 123 yards and having also thrown two interceptions; his 22.6 quarterback rating was the lowest ever of any by a Super Bowl winning quarterback. But, i guess a win's a win.. He did have an awesome season getting them to that point..

BIg Ben had a very bad Super Bowl XL, but he had an almost perfect playoff run to get the Steeelers there. It is amazing how good big Ben is and how underrated he is for all his talent, there have been some ridiculous articles where this offseason where they rank QB´s and put Big Ben behind good but inferior competition like, Tony Romo, Carson Palmer or even Derek Anderson. In worst case scenario he is the third best QB in the NFL only behind Brady and Peyton Manning.
Now he has been doing this laregely based in a tons of natural talent, he does need to handle the offense much better in order to get rid of the ball faster, so if his comments proves to be true, he will be the best QB in the league.

Ben needs to take off and run more. It may be only 3 or 4 yards but waiting to let some of these slow recievers to get open has killed drives. He is big and athletic, and as a former d lineman there is nothing more frustrating than the QB getting yards when he should be sacked. I am not saying rush for a 1000 yds but 20 a game sounds good considering the o line we are fielding this year.

Ben has been one of the most underrated players in the league on one of the most underrated TEAMS in the league. Yes, Ben had a bad game in SB XL but, fortunately, he is surrounded by teammates who can pick up the slack. This is why the Steelers have been successful for so long...no stars, just teammates.

Yes a win is a win... Stats don't score points and I believe he had 3 big plays in the SB. 1) The running TD 2) The scramble to his left and 30+ yard throwback across his body to Ward at the 2. 3) The block to spring Randel-El for his TD toss to Ward.
It wasn't fantasy football, in real football players can make plays outside the stat sheet.

Big Ben can be the best QB in the NFL if he isn't already. Tom Brady didn't look that "terriffic" during the last Superbowl, even with Moss. I would like to see Ben run just a little more often but there is always the risk of injury. Taking off once in awhile may help to keep the defense more honest.
Even though they have a tougher schedule this season the offense will be improved. That will become appearent about mid-season. Also consider the team many predict to be the Steelers chief competetor, the finally becoming competable again Cleveland Browns, have a very difficult schedule so once again the Pittsburgh Steelers will win the division. The big question is how far will they go? Lets start thinking about a ring for the other hand!
