“JimIt can't feel good to be an NFL head coach and be asked to give up all offensive play-calling. That's what the Washington Redskins recently asked coach Jim Zorn to do and he was so unhappy about it that he very nearly went ahead and turned in his whistle and went home, according to NFL.com.

At least that's what Zorn's former Seattle Seahawks teammate Steve Largent said yesterday.

Zorn apparently didn't want to hand over the responsibilities of play-calling to consultant Sherman Lewis, who the team recently hired. One imagines that pretty soon it won't be Zorn's choice whether he is with the team or not.

sucks reading this stuff. I LOVE the NFC east rivalries, but when teams start falling apart at the seams, it kinda takes the fun out of beating them. Still weary about this coming game as the Skins seem to always have the Eagles number. Eagles have to win this one

I feel for Zorn, why would an NFL team have a guy who has only been with the team a few weeks make the calls over the man who was orignally the OC? Foolish, and I think the writing is on the wall when they take this much power from a Head Coach. Snyder needs to look in the mirror to see what has happened to this once proud franchise.

It all filters down from the top. The Redskins will never be a winning team again as long as Snyder owns it. Don't blame the coach. He has gone through any number of coaches and none do well under him. Top coaches who could turn the team around will not work for him. Snyder makes money with a losing team so he is not apt to sell. Nothing will happen until the fans start staying home. When he starts losing money he will sell.

We haven't yet seen what Jim Zorn can do as a coach(give him a team with an offensive line, a healthy, hungry running back, a quarterback who doesn't have to run for his life every play after 2.5 seconds, an aggressive, attacking defense that other teams fear, etc., etc.). What we've got right now is the lamest of lame duck coaches. Sounds like Zorn would have gladly accepted being fired and walking away from this disaster with a healthy severance package. Now there is no real incentive for him to turn the team around. Why would he want to make things work? The better the team does, the more it looks like Dan/ Vinnie were right to take responsibilities away from him, and the longer it will be before he can get away from this train wreck. He's got to be smart enough to see that regardless of how things go in the rest of the season, Dan will be looking for the next guest-star coach for 2010. By letting things continue downhill for a couple more weeks, he can show that play-calling wasn't the issue, give Dan more of an incentive to let him go with his pockets full, and free himself up to get on with a Snyder-free life.

Zorn gets a bad rap on this. he didn't choose the staff or the players, like an HC normally would. Josh has done well, he chose his staff and had managements full backing on how to deal with the players. I believe Zorn got the job because nobody else would take it. Gibbs left 2 yrs early, williams and saunders left at the same time. coaches talk to each other. After they way Dan has treated Zorn, he'll never get a top notch coach to come in. We're like the raiders. coaches and players dont want to be here. Ceratto failed this bad when he was with SF that's why they fired him. This team has had Zero continuity since Danny took over. he's a spoiled brat with ADHD and a big checkbook. He has sued his fans, he has his fans searched at the gates to make sure they dont bring in a paper bag to wear during the game ( limiting freedom of speech ). Kind Danny of Kings Dominion.

Jim Zorn may be failing at his job as head coach but no one, I repeat no one deserves the treatment Dan Snyder is dishing out. It's MORE than obvious Snyder intends to replace Zorn, so why go thru this public embarrassment??? Snyder is proof that money can't fix all.....especially when you mix it with stupidty.

This team lacks creditability! That starts with the owner. Just beause he has a fat wallet, doesn't mean he has football know how. Everyone knows Dan is impatient. He's trying to buy a winner, not build one. Wrong formula!
As for Vinnie, he has no business as a GM. He's a yes man for Synder. Dan and Vinnie picked the coaches. They picked jim Zorn as the OC. When head coach wanted this job, they decided to elevate Jim Zorn to the position. Jim may not have been ready at the time to be a head coach, he was a quarterback coach, but he will grown into the position if Synder lets him. That's a good two year project. The players support his approach. That's a good sign.
I doubt Danny Boy will wait. He will fire Zorn and look for a new head coach. That's SOP for Synder. It not fair to let Jim dangle in the wind. If you want him out,do the right thing, buy him out and pick some other idiot to finish out the season.

I'm a redskins fan and I feel for Jim Zorn. He never had a chance to succeed whenever he took the head coaching offer. Why would any other coach want to come to this team? The team has so many issues. Daniel Synder needs to step back and hire a decent GM. They need to get rid of these over the hill high prices players as well and bring in some younger guys that want to play. We thought the team was doing bad now. We'll we're in the tough part of the schedule now. It's time for us to get blown out now!!
