The Baltimore Ravens are only days away from taking their final shot at getting into the postseason when it takes on the Oakland Raiders this weekend. But backup quarterback Troy Smith's(notes) agent apparently thought this would be a good time to say his client has requested a trade so he can get some more playing time, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Smith's agent, Ralph Cindrich, tweeted the big news about his client, who completed 5-of-9 passes for 24 yards and threw one interception this year. Smith also rushed for 38 yards and scored a touchdown this season.
Smith's tonsils may have sealed his fate back in the summer of 2008 when he was competing with Joe Flacco(notes) and Kyle Boller(notes) for the starting spot. He was set to start a preseason game and then didn't because of a "severe tonsil infection" that kept him out of action for the first five games of the regular season.
Coach John Harbaugh for one would like to keep Smith in Charm City: "I know from a coach's perspective, I want Troy Smith here as long as we can keep Troy Smith here," Harbaugh said.
